Sant Josep de sa Talaia has inspected a private property in the Es Cubells area after receiving information about the possible poor condition of a group of cats kept at the site.

The inspection was carried out by officers from the Sant Josep Local Police together with a veterinarian from the municipality’s Centre for the Protection of Domestic Animals, CEPAD.

Cats Found in Good Condition

According to the findings communicated by Sant Josep Town Hall, the animals were in good condition when the inspection was carried out.

No indications of animal abuse were detected, and the inspection did not identify any situation requiring municipal intervention within the council’s legal powers.

The inspection was specifically intended to establish the condition of the cats and the circumstances in which they were being kept.

Adult Cats Were Sterilised and Microchipped

Municipal personnel also checked the adult cats and found that they had been sterilised and identified with microchips.

Several kittens were also present. The municipality said these animals had not yet been sterilised or identified because of their age.

The findings therefore differ from the concerns that had prompted requests for an inspection earlier this month.

Police Receive Information About Missing Animals

During the inspection, Local Police received information indicating that some of the cats may have been removed from the property by people who allegedly entered the privately owned site without authorisation.

The information concerns a possible removal of animals and should not be treated as a confirmed theft. Police are following up on the circumstances.

Officers also found that the property had suffered acts of vandalism.

Further Checks Planned

Sant Josep Local Police plans to continue monitoring the situation and carry out further visits to the property to check that the cats remain in good condition.

The follow-up is intended to ensure that the situation remains stable and that any new incidents affecting the animals or the property can be identified.

Earlier Concerns Prompted Inspection

The case came to public attention earlier in September after animal-welfare group Acts4animals raised concerns about a group of cats reportedly being kept in an enclosed area in Es Cubells.

At the time, the association called for an urgent inspection to establish the number of animals involved and assess their health, identification and sterilisation status. Sant Josep subsequently activated its inspection procedure.

The subsequent municipal inspection has now provided an official assessment of the animals’ condition.

Sant Josep Urges Responsible Reporting

The Town Hall has reiterated that its services respond to reports of possible animal mistreatment or welfare problems by checking the circumstances and taking appropriate action within their powers.

The municipality has also called for responsibility and accuracy when information is passed to public authorities, noting that inspection and verification procedures require municipal resources.

What the Inspection Established

The latest inspection established that the cats were in good condition, with adult animals found to be sterilised and microchipped. No indications of animal abuse were identified during the visit.

At the same time, police are following up on information concerning the possible removal of some animals from the private property and the vandalism found at the site. Further checks are expected as the case continues to be monitored.
