Former Ibiza DJ Evicted From Punta Galera Cave After More Than a Decade
A former DJ known locally as Alex has been evicted from a cave in Punta Galera, near Sant Antoni de Portmany in Ibiza, where he had been living for more than ten years.
According to the local council, the Local Police of Sant Antoni received a report that someone was living in the protected coastal area. Officers visited the site to check the situation and determine whether there was an irregular occupation or if the person required assistance.
At first, police did not find anyone at the cave but confirmed clear signs that someone had been residing there. After several days of attempting to locate the individual, Alex later presented himself at the local police station, where he was identified.
Authorities confirmed that he had been camping illegally in a protected natural environment. A sanctioning procedure has now been opened for irregular overnight camping in the area.
Alex, originally from the Czech Republic, was once an active figure in Ibiza’s electronic music scene during the 1990s. He reportedly earned gold and platinum records and performed during the island’s clubbing era alongside artists such as Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin and Paul van Dyk.
More than a decade ago, he chose to leave that lifestyle behind and moved to a cave on the cliffs of Punta Galera. He had been living there for around 12 years, surrounded by nature and accompanied by several cats. The cave eventually became known among some visitors as a small alternative gathering spot, where he occasionally sold juices and mojitos to passersby.
Local reports describe him as living a quiet life by the sea in recent years. The police intervention followed increased attention to the site after a video about Alex and his cave circulated on social media.
Authorities stated that he has agreed to remove and relocate the waste that had accumulated in the cave area, contributing to the cleanup and preservation of the protected natural site.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to protect Ibiza’s natural environments, particularly areas such as Punta Galera, which are designated as protected coastal zones where camping and permanent residence are not permitted.
