A Romanian couple has been arrested in Ibiza in connection with the alleged theft of jewellery worth €17,100 from a jewellery shop in Ibiza Town, with police recovering the stolen items hidden inside their young daughter's nappy.

The arrests were carried out by officers from the Ibiza unit specialising in property crime investigations. According to the Policía Nacional, the alleged theft took place on August 27 at Joyería Pomar in central Ibiza.

The woman was arrested at Ibiza port as she was reportedly preparing to board a ferry to Valencia. Police subsequently followed the vehicle in which she had arrived and arrested the man in Sant Antoni.

During a search of the man and the vehicle, officers discovered the allegedly stolen jewellery concealed in the child's nappy.

Both suspects have been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
