Storm Brings Heavy Rain, Fallen Trees and Power Cuts to Ibiza

October 03, 2026

Ibiza was hit by heavy rain, thunderstorms and intense electrical activity during the early hours of Saturday, October 3, with several incidents reported across the island.

The storm brought temporary road closures, fallen trees, localised flooding and power cuts, although emergency authorities reported that none of the incidents had caused serious injuries or major damage.

Ibiza and Formentera had entered the weekend under an orange weather alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms. AEMET had warned of the possibility of rainfall of up to 40 litres per square metre in one hour, together with significant electrical activity.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms overnight

Rainfall intensified in Ibiza from around 2:00am, accompanied by frequent lightning and thunderstorms.

The heaviest impacts reported during the early morning were concentrated in parts of Sant Josep, although incidents were also recorded in Sant Antoni and other areas of the island.

Emergency services recorded several calls relating to the weather, including fallen trees and flooding of a public road. According to information reported by Cadena SER from the Directorate General of Emergencies and the island fire service, around half a dozen incidents had been recorded in Sant Josep and Sant Antoni.

Road temporarily closed after trees fall

One of the clearest transport disruptions occurred on the road between Sant Josep and Cala Vedella.

A tree fell across the road before the turn towards Cala d'Hort, forcing the temporary closure of the affected section while firefighters removed the trunk and branches.

A second fallen tree was also reported in the Cala d'Hort area. The affected roads were subsequently reopened at around 8:30am after emergency crews cleared the obstacles.

Power cuts reported in several areas

The storm also caused interruptions to the electricity supply.

In Sant Josep, faults affecting electricity lines in the Benimussa and Port des Torrent areas left around 300 customers without power at the time of the morning report. The number affected had reportedly reached approximately 700 during the early hours.

A separate fault in the Es Canar area brought the number of customers without electricity to around 400 at the time of the latest report.

Endesa crews were working to restore the affected supplies as the weather conditions improved enough to allow repair work to continue. The company had not initially confirmed that the outages were directly caused by the storm.

Telecommunications also affected

The storm also caused problems in the San Lorenzo area, where telecommunications infrastructure is located.

Issues affecting antennas and repeaters disrupted several radio broadcasts, including Radio Ibiza SER and Los40 Ibiza, according to local reports.

Cala Vedella sees intense rainfall

Cala Vedella was among the areas where the intensity of the rainfall was particularly visible.

Images from the area showed large volumes of water flowing along streets towards the beach during the storm.

AEMET's Saturday forecast continued to show very cloudy conditions and rain for Cala Vedella during the morning, while its coastal forecast warned of the possibility of very strong showers and thunderstorms in the waters around Ibiza and Formentera.

Weather alert remains in place

The Balearic Government's Directorate General of Emergencies and Interior maintained the orange Meteobal alert for Ibiza and Formentera on Friday as the storm system approached, urging residents and visitors to remain cautious and keep up to date with the latest forecasts.

AEMET's maritime forecast for Saturday continued to warn of potentially very strong precipitation and thunderstorms, particularly in the coastal waters of Ibiza and Formentera.

The weather alert was expected to remain active through the first part of Saturday, with the situation then monitored as the storm system moved away from the Pitiusas.

No serious incidents reported

Despite the intensity of the overnight weather, emergency authorities said the incidents recorded in Ibiza were not considered serious.

The main impacts reported so far have been fallen trees, temporary disruption to roads, localised flooding, electricity outages and telecommunications problems.

The situation remains subject to change as the unsettled weather continues across the Balearic Islands.
