Two of Sant Antoni de Portmany's leading sporting organisations have joined forces in a new collaboration designed to strengthen local sport and create closer links between the municipality's basketball and nautical communities.

Club Bàsquet Sant Antoni and Club Nàutic Sant Antoni have signed an agreement that will see the two organisations work together on promotional activities, social initiatives and the use of shared resources. Both clubs say the partnership begins this year but is intended to continue over the long term.

Bringing Two Sporting Communities Together

Although basketball and nautical sports are very different disciplines, the two clubs see opportunities to support each other and increase their connection with the local community.

The agreement aims to combine the reach of both organisations while encouraging greater participation in sport across Sant Antoni. It will include initiatives promoting their respective activities as well as potential charitable and community projects.

Marcos Páez, vice-president and manager of Club Bàsquet Sant Antoni, said the clubs were joining forces for the benefit of sport and the wider social fabric of the municipality.

Aiming to Bring More People to the Sea

For Club Nàutic Sant Antoni, one of the opportunities created by the partnership is reaching people who may not normally be involved in nautical sports.

Club Nàutic president Pep Tur highlighted the basketball club's ability to involve a large part of the local population and said this could help bring more residents closer to the sea and water sports.

The nautical club said working with other sporting organisations is already part of its wider approach to remaining open to the local community from sporting, social, cultural and institutional perspectives.

"Hacer Pueblo" at the Centre of the Partnership

Club Bàsquet Sant Antoni president Vicent Costa described the idea as an opportunity to "hacer pueblo", or strengthen the sense of community.

Costa also praised the work carried out by Es Nàutic's sailing and canoeing sections, describing them as having a strong sporting base. He said that bringing more local organisations together could help strengthen the overall position of sport in Sant Antoni.

The First Collaboration Has Already Taken Place

The partnership has already moved beyond the announcement stage.

On September 9, Es Nàutic hosted the official presentation of the Class Bàsquet Sant Antoni squad for the 2026/27 season at its facilities in the port of Sant Antoni.

The event was attended by the full basketball squad, coaching staff and club representatives, along with members of the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni board and local representatives including first deputy mayor Neus Mateu and sports councillor Daniel Sánchez.

Following the presentation, guests gathered for a reception prepared by the restaurant at Es Nàutic.

Class Bàsquet Sant Antoni Begins a New Season

The basketball club will compete in Segunda FEB during the 2026/27 season under new head coach Boris Balibrea.

At the official presentation, the club reiterated its ambition of reaching Primera FEB after narrowly missing promotion during the previous three seasons. Sporting director Jordi Grimau has assembled the new squad, while Class Rent a Car continues as the team's main sponsor.

The collaboration with Es Nàutic therefore begins as the basketball team prepares for another season at national level.

A Partnership Designed to Grow

The two clubs have presented the agreement as more than a one-off arrangement.

Both organisations want to use their respective networks, facilities and community presence to develop new activities while encouraging greater participation in sport throughout Sant Antoni.

For the municipality, the partnership creates a link between two established sporting communities, connecting basketball with sailing, canoeing and other nautical activities while placing local participation and community involvement at the heart of the initiative.
