A 19-year-old man has died after being stabbed during an incident in Palma's Son Gotleu neighbourhood, with a minor subsequently arrested by the Policía Nacional on suspicion of homicide.

The attack happened late on Sunday, September 13, on Calle Indalecio Prieto. Emergency services received the first calls at around 10:50pm reporting that a young man had been stabbed and was lying injured in the street.

Emergency Teams Fought to Save His Life

When SAMU 061 arrived, the victim was in cardiorespiratory arrest and had suffered a serious penetrating stab wound.

Medical teams carried out advanced resuscitation manoeuvres and managed to recover his pulse before transferring him in critical condition to Hospital Universitari Son Espases.

He was taken directly to surgery, but doctors were unable to save him and he later died from the severity of his injuries, according to the Balearic Health Service.

Police Investigation Leads to Arrest

The Policía Nacional's Homicide Group took over the investigation to establish what happened and identify the person responsible.

Police said witnesses had reported a confrontation between two young men shortly before the stabbing. Officers subsequently located a suspect in the area and arrested him as the alleged perpetrator of a homicide.

The circumstances and motive behind the confrontation remain under investigation.

Suspect Confirmed to Be a Minor

Police initially believed the person arrested was an adult, but subsequent identity checks established that the suspect is under 18.

The case was therefore transferred to the Fiscalía de Menores, with the investigation continuing under the juvenile justice system.

A juvenile court later ordered the suspect to be placed in a youth detention centre while the case proceeds.

Police Continue Investigating the Attack

Officers also searched the surrounding area as part of the investigation and attempted to locate the weapon used in the attack. Witness statements were gathered to reconstruct the events leading up to the stabbing.

The identity of the person under investigation has not been publicly released, in accordance with protections applying to minors.

The incident has shocked the Son Gotleu neighbourhood and prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man's death.

Authorities have not publicly established a definitive motive for the confrontation, and the suspect remains presumed innocent unless and until a court determines otherwise.
