Works Begin on Ibiza’s Camí des Fil with €817,707 Investment

03 de October de 2026

Works have begun on the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Camí des Fil in Sant Carles de Peralta, with the project set to renew approximately 6.4 kilometres of one of the municipality's important rural roads.

The Santa Eulària des Riu Town Hall has awarded the contract to Hermanos Parrot S.A. for €817,707.78 including VAT. The project is being financed entirely with municipal funds and has an execution period of two months from the start of the works.

The first work has focused on cleaning and clearing the roadside drainage ditches.

A Key Route in the Northeast of Ibiza

The Camí des Fil has an average width of around six metres and one traffic lane in each direction.

The road provides an important connection towards es Figueral, Cala Boix and es Pou des Lleó and experiences particularly high traffic levels during the summer months.

It is also frequently used by people travelling from the northern part of Ibiza towards the Las Dalias market, contributing to increased traffic on the road during busy periods.

Extensive Repairs to the Road Surface

The existing road surface has developed a range of problems attributed by the Town Hall to continued use, increased traffic and the passage of a desalinated-water pipeline serving es Figueral.

The road currently has potholes, ruts and cracks, while sections of the surface have deteriorated to the point where their safety and durability have been affected.

The project will address the most damaged sections through deeper repairs to potholes and other deteriorated areas. Affected sections will be milled before a new asphalt surface is installed.

The works will also include cleaning and improving the roadside drainage ditches and transverse drainage infrastructure.

Stone Walls to Be Repaired

The project includes the repair, reconstruction or local replacement of stone walls that may be affected during the works.

Where repairs are necessary, limestone in tones similar to the existing material will be used, with the aim of maintaining the traditional appearance of the dry-stone walls characteristic of the rural landscape around Sant Carles.

New Road Markings

Once the paving work is complete, horizontal road markings affected by the project will be replaced using reflective paint.

Existing vertical signage will remain in place.

The project also includes bringing utility covers and other service elements located on the road surface back to the appropriate level and cleaning the edges of the road.

Traffic Restrictions to Come

Drivers should expect temporary traffic restrictions later in the project.

The Town Hall has said that sections of the Camí des Fil will need to be closed during certain phases of the asphalt works. The affected areas will be communicated in advance to residents and other road users to help them plan their journeys and minimise disruption.

From Tender to Construction

The current €817,707.78 figure represents the contract awarded to Hermanos Parrot S.A. after the company submitted the best offer among three bidders.

The original tender budget published by Santa Eulària in July was €1,040,239.66 including VAT. That figure was the initial procurement budget, rather than the final amount awarded for the works.

With construction now underway, the project is expected to take two months to complete from the start of the works.

The rehabilitation will renew the road surface, improve drainage, address damaged areas and protect affected traditional stone walls along approximately 6.4 kilometres of the Camí des Fil, improving a frequently used connection through the Sant Carles area.
