DANA Could Bring Rain and Cooler Temperatures to Ibiza and Formentera This Weekend

Pubblicato il 14 October 2026 alle 07:19

Ibiza and Formentera could see a significant change in the weather from Saturday, October 17, with forecasts pointing to rain and falling temperatures after several unusually warm days for October. A possible DANA is among the weather scenarios being monitored, although its development and the distribution of rainfall remain uncertain.

Rain Expected to Become More Likely Over the Weekend

The latest forecasts suggest that unsettled conditions could begin developing on Saturday, October 17, with rain potentially continuing into Sunday, October 18, and Monday, October 19.

Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, AEMET, currently forecasts rain across the latter part of its seven-day outlook for both Ibiza and Formentera. Sunday stands out as a particularly wet day in the current forecast.

However, the precise amount of rainfall and the areas that could receive the heaviest downpours have not yet been established. The forecast should therefore be understood as an indication of the possible weather pattern, rather than confirmation of a severe rainfall event affecting the islands.

Temperatures Could Drop by Several Degrees

The expected change would also bring cooler conditions after temperatures climbed to around 25–27°C earlier in the week.

AEMET’s current municipal forecast for Ibiza indicates daytime highs of around 26°C on Friday and Saturday, falling to approximately 23°C on Sunday and 22°C on Monday.

For Formentera, the forecast points to highs of around 25°C on Saturday, 23°C on Sunday and 22°C on Monday.

The drop could make the weekend feel noticeably cooler, particularly during periods of rain and after sunset.

What Is a DANA?

DANA stands for Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos, or an isolated depression at high atmospheric levels. It describes a weather system that becomes separated from the main atmospheric flow.

Such systems can contribute to unstable conditions and rainfall, but a DANA does not automatically mean severe weather or flooding. The eventual impact depends on the system’s position, movement and interaction with other atmospheric conditions.

Meteorologists are still assessing how the developing weather pattern could affect the Balearic Islands and other parts of the western Mediterranean. The exact trajectory and local impacts remain subject to change.

Are Weather Warnings in Place?

The possibility of rain should not be confused with an official severe-weather warning. Forecasts can change as the weekend approaches, and the current outlook does not establish where any potentially intense rainfall would occur.

Residents and visitors should monitor the latest AEMET forecasts and official weather alerts before making outdoor plans or travelling by sea. Conditions are especially worth checking for boat trips, coastal activities and other plans that depend on the weather.

A Forecast to Watch as the Weekend Approaches

For now, the outlook points towards a wetter and cooler end to the week in Ibiza and Formentera, with Sunday, October 18, currently looking particularly unsettled.

The possible DANA remains a developing scenario, and the extent of its impact is not yet clear. Further forecast updates over the coming days should provide a better picture of the timing, intensity and distribution of the rain.
