Storm Adam Causes 410 Incidents Across the Balearic Islands, With Flooding Still Affecting Ibiza and Formentera

October 22, 2026

Storm Adam generated 410 incidents across the Balearic Islands over several days of heavy rain and thunderstorms, according to the regional 112 Emergency Coordination Centre. Although the weather was beginning to improve, 13 incidents remained open on Tuesday evening, 20 October, all in Ibiza and Formentera.

The outstanding cases involved flooding in buildings, business premises and public roads. Emergency teams continued working in the areas affected by the storm as authorities monitored the situation and assessed the damage.

The figures were published on Wednesday, 21 October, following an update from the Balearic Government.

Thirteen Incidents Remained Open in the Pityusic Islands

At around 21:00 on Tuesday, 13 of the 410 recorded incidents were still open. All were located in Ibiza or Formentera and related to flooding.

The cumulative total had increased from 388 incidents recorded in an earlier government update. At that earlier stage, 36 incidents remained open across Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The later figures show that additional incidents were registered while many of the earlier cases were resolved.

The figures refer to incidents handled by the 112 Emergency Coordination Centre, rather than a count of individual properties damaged or people affected.

Flood Emergency Plan Remained Active

Despite the improving weather forecast, the Balearic Government continued to apply its emergency response measures.

The INUNBAL flood plan remained at operational level 2 in Ibiza and Formentera, while Mallorca was at operational level 0. Authorities planned to reassess the situation on Wednesday.

The State Meteorological Agency, AEMET, indicated that the episode of heavy rain and thunderstorms was approaching its end, although instability had not completely disappeared. The authorities therefore continued monitoring conditions and the effects of the accumulated rainfall.

Emergency Teams Continue Recovery Work in Ibiza

The regional Director General of Emergencies and Interior, Pablo Gárriz, visited several of Ibiza's most affected areas on Tuesday, including Sant Josep, Platja d'en Bossa, Ibiza Town, Santa Eulària des Riu and es Figueral.

During the visits, he met local authorities and conveyed the regional government's commitment to provide assistance and advice where needed.

The emergency response involved the Military Emergency Unit (UME), Ibiza Fire Service, other emergency personnel and civil protection teams. Their work included responding to flooding and supporting recovery efforts in affected locations.

Gárriz was also due to visit Formentera on Wednesday to assess the impact of the storm on the island.

The Storm's Impact Across the Balearic Islands

Storm Adam brought intense rainfall and thunderstorms to the Balearic Islands, with particularly serious effects in Ibiza and Formentera. The accumulated rainfall contributed to flooding and placed pressure on drainage systems and watercourses.

The emergency response continued even as the weather began to settle, reflecting the risks that can remain after heavy rainfall, including saturated ground and localised flooding.

The latest figures available in the 21 October report recorded 410 incidents across the archipelago, with 13 still open on Tuesday evening. Authorities were due to reassess the situation as recovery operations continued.

The incident total represents the emergency services' recorded workload during the storm, while the full extent of damage and any longer-term consequences require separate assessment.
