The Cámara de Comercio de Ibiza y Formentera is organising a free practical cybersecurity workshop for businesses and self-employed workers on Tuesday, September 22, aimed at helping local companies identify digital threats and strengthen their protection against cyberattacks.

The session, titled “Ciberseguridad práctica para PYMES y autónomos”, will begin at 5:30pm at the Centro Cultural de Jesús on Carrer del Faisà, 7. Prior registration is required and places are limited.

Practical Cybersecurity for Ibiza Businesses

The workshop has been designed specifically for small and medium-sized businesses and self-employed professionals that may not have dedicated cybersecurity teams or extensive technical resources.

Rather than focusing solely on theory, the session will use practical examples to explain how cyberattacks happen, how vulnerabilities can be identified and what businesses can do to reduce their exposure to digital threats.

Rafael López, Known as “Cibercapitán”

The workshop will be led by Rafael López, a cybersecurity engineer better known as “Cibercapitán”.

López has more than 20 years of experience in the technology sector and currently works as a Security Engineer at Check Point Software Technologies. He is also involved with the international FIRST network and has worked extensively in cybersecurity education and public awareness.

His role in the session will be to translate complex cybersecurity issues into practical measures that businesses can apply in their daily operations.

How Businesses Can Recognise Digital Threats

One of the main sections will focus on identifying threats affecting business computers, laptops and mobile phones.

Participants will look at common risks and vulnerabilities and learn how seemingly routine digital activity can expose a company to an attack.

The programme will also include a step-by-step examination of a real-world cyberattack case, helping attendees understand how an incident can develop and where preventative measures can make a difference.

What to Do During and After an Attack

The workshop will also address what happens when prevention fails.

Participants will be shown protocols for responding during and after a cyberattack, including the measures businesses should consider to contain an incident and protect their operations.

The Chamber says the objective is to give companies practical procedures that can be incorporated into their normal working routines rather than treating cybersecurity as a purely technical issue.

Affordable Protection for SMEs

Another part of the session will examine security tools, technologies and policies that can be adopted by smaller businesses without requiring major investments.

This is particularly relevant for local SMEs and self-employed professionals, for whom the cost and complexity of cybersecurity solutions can sometimes be a barrier to improving digital protection.

The workshop will focus on measures that are realistic for businesses with limited technical resources.

GDPR and Data Protection

The session will also cover cybersecurity in relation to Spain and the European Union's data-protection requirements.

Participants will receive guidance on key aspects of security under the Reglamento General de Protección de Datos (GDPR), including measures intended to help businesses protect personal information and reduce the risk of regulatory problems.

The workshop is completely free, but advance registration is required because places are limited.
