Ibiza's UE8 bus line will change its route from October 15, creating a new public transport connection between the Universitat de les Illes Balears, Dalt Vila, the city centre and two of Ibiza Town's park-and-ride car parks.

The route change has been requested by Ibiza Town Council and agreed with the Consell d'Eivissa as part of the ongoing adjustment of the island's new public transport network.

The new service is intended to make it easier to reach the university and historic centre without relying entirely on private vehicles.

UIB added to the route

One of the main changes will be the direct incorporation of the UIB into the UE8 itinerary.

Buses will depart from Vara de Rey and travel towards the UIB and es Soto before continuing uphill into Dalt Vila as far as the Seminari.

From there, the route will descend towards the centre via Bartomeu de Rosselló and Ignasi Wallis.

The change responds in part to requests from UIB students and users of the Universitat Oberta per a Majors, as well as people travelling to Dalt Vila and the Cathedral.

Connecting Dalt Vila with park-and-ride car parks

The revised route will also provide a connection between the historic centre and the park-and-ride car parks at GESA and es Gorg.

After leaving Dalt Vila, the bus will continue through Bartomeu de Rosselló and Ignasi Wallis, allowing passengers who leave their vehicles in these peripheral parking areas to continue their journey by public transport.

The council says this is intended to encourage people to leave cars outside the most congested central areas and continue into the city by bus or on foot.

The return journey

The route will operate differently in the opposite direction.

After serving the centre, the bus will pass through the Port d'Eivissa and continue towards CETIS, Can Misses and Can Escandell.

It will then return to Vara de Rey via Avenida de España.

The result will be a circular-style connection linking the university, Dalt Vila, central Ibiza, healthcare and transport facilities and peripheral parking areas.

New timetable from October 15

The revised UE8 will operate seven days a week.

From Monday to Saturday, buses will run from 06:50 until 22:20, with a frequency of approximately every 30 minutes.

On Sundays, the service will operate from 08:15 until 20:55, with buses every 40 minutes.

The new timetable will come into force on October 15.

Designed around everyday journeys

The route change is intended to respond to everyday travel needs rather than simply serving tourist destinations.

The UIB, Dalt Vila and the Cathedral were specifically identified among the destinations for which users had requested better public transport connections.

The inclusion of GESA and es Gorg also gives drivers an option to park outside the busiest central area and continue their journey by bus.

This creates a stronger link between parking and public transport as part of Ibiza Town's wider mobility strategy.

The UE8 change comes several months after Ibiza introduced its revised public transport network.

The network has continued to receive adjustments based on passenger demand and feedback, with changes being made to routes, stops and frequencies after the initial rollout.

The Consell reported 1,251,534 passenger journeys across the new network in August, its highest monthly figure to date.

Between April and August, the network recorded 4,958,831 journeys.

A practical change for Ibiza Town

For students, residents, workers and visitors heading towards the UIB or Dalt Vila, the revised UE8 will provide another direct public transport option.

It also gives users of the GESA and es Gorg park-and-ride facilities a clearer connection towards the centre.

The route will begin operating in its new form on Thursday, October 15.
