Sant Antoni de Portmany has unveiled plans for a comprehensive renovation of the children's park in Ses Païsses, with a €4.28 million project set to transform the existing public space with new play areas, sports facilities, a 22-metre zip line, water-play features, a café kiosk and spaces for community activities.

The project, approved by the Sant Antoni Town Hall's governing board, will cover approximately 7,525 square metres of the existing 7,800-square-metre park on Carrer Clavell.

The works are expected to take 12 months once construction officially begins.

A Complete Redesign of the Park

The redevelopment will retain the general structure of the existing park while introducing new facilities designed for children, families, young people and older residents.

The Town Hall says the existing trees will be preserved wherever possible and incorporated into the new layout.

The project also includes improved access, new paving, lighting, water systems and other infrastructure.

The aim is to create a more accessible and multifunctional public space that can be used for play, sport, recreation and community events.

A 2,385-Square-Metre Children's Area

The main children's zone will cover approximately 2,385 square metres.

It will be designed for different age groups and will include climbing structures, multi-play equipment, swings, seesaws, carousels, integrated trampolines, spring-mounted games and rotating elements.

One of the centrepieces will be a large wooden multifunctional structure standing 7.35 metres high and designed in the shape of a castle.

The structure will include towers, several slides, ramps and other play elements.

A 22-Metre Zip Line

One of the most distinctive additions will be a 22-metre zip line.

According to the Town Hall, the feature responds to a request made by local children during the municipality's children's plenary sessions.

It will become one of the main attractions in the redesigned play area.

Water-Play Fountains for Summer

The project will also introduce a dedicated area of interactive water fountains.

The fountains will be integrated into the paving and are intended to operate during the summer season.

The feature is designed to add another way for children and families to use the park during Ibiza's hotter months.

A New Sports Area

Sport will form another major part of the redesign.

The project includes a 990-square-metre sports area with multi-purpose courts for basketball and recreational football.

There will also be a table-tennis area and a fitness zone with exercise equipment designed for older people.

The addition means the park will cater for a wider range of ages rather than focusing exclusively on young children.

A Circuit for Bikes and Scooters

A 710-square-metre circuit will be created for bicycles, skates and scooters.

The continuous route will include gentle changes in elevation, curves and undulating sections designed to give children and young users a dedicated place to practise riding.

The facility is intended to complement the main play and sports areas.

A Permanent Stage and Public Square

The new park will also include spaces for cultural and community activities.

A 650-square-metre multifunctional plaza will be created alongside a permanent 124-square-metre stage.

The Town Hall says these areas will be available for cultural, recreational, children's, municipal and community-participation activities.

This will allow the park to function not only as a play area but also as a venue for events and neighbourhood activities.

Café Kiosk and Family Areas

A 65-square-metre kiosk-café is planned, together with a 55-square-metre terrace and accessible public toilets.

The facility is intended to support visitors using the park and activities taking place there.

Around 260 square metres will also be dedicated to family seating and gathering areas, with picnic tables, benches and shaded spaces close to the children's zone.

The arrangement is intended to make it easier for adults to supervise children while using the park.

More Shade for Ibiza's Summer

Shade is a prominent feature of the new design.

The municipality plans to install textile shade structures covering the play and recreation areas, while also retaining the natural shade provided by existing trees.

The combination is intended to make the park more comfortable during the hottest months of the year.

Improved Accessibility

Accessibility is another central part of the project.

The existing paths and pavements will be renovated to create continuous and more accessible pedestrian routes.

The project also includes new street furniture, drinking fountains, bicycle parking and additional seating areas.

The aim is to create a space that can be used more easily by people with different mobility needs.

New Lighting and Surveillance

The park's public lighting will be completely renewed using high-efficiency LED technology.

A new video-surveillance system is also planned to support security and facilitate maintenance and monitoring of the facilities.

The project includes upgrades to electricity, telecommunications, water supply, drainage, sanitation and irrigation networks.

Water Efficiency Included in the Design

Water management has also been incorporated into the project.

A new automated irrigation network will be installed and adapted to the park's future layout.

The system is intended to optimise water use while maintaining the landscaped areas.

The municipality says the project prioritises water efficiency alongside accessibility, energy efficiency and the use of durable, low-maintenance materials.

€4.28 Million Investment

The planned execution budget is €4,283,643.26 including VAT.

The project establishes a construction period of 12 months from the signing of the formal site commencement document.

A two-year warranty period is also included.

The investment makes the Ses Païsses renovation one of the larger public-works projects currently being developed by Sant Antoni's Public Works department.

The Project Is Not Yet Under Construction

The project has been approved by the municipal governing board, but construction has not yet started.

The next stage is the contracting process.

The mayor has said he expects the project to become a reality by the end of this year or at the beginning of 2027, after which the 12-month construction period would begin once the site commencement process is completed.

This means the one-year construction period should not be interpreted as a confirmed opening date for the renovated park.

Preserving the Existing Trees

Despite the scale of the redesign, the project does not involve removing the park's general structure.

The municipality says existing trees will be preserved and incorporated into the new design.

Natural shade from the trees will therefore remain part of the park, complemented by additional textile shade over play and recreation areas.

A Space for Different Generations

The proposed park has been designed to serve more than one age group.

Young children will have dedicated play equipment, while older children can use the zip line and cycling circuit.

Teenagers and adults will have access to sports facilities, and an exercise area has specifically been planned for older people.

Families will also have shaded seating and picnic areas, while the stage and plaza can accommodate community activities.

From Play Area to Community Space

The project represents a broader change in the role planned for the Ses Païsses site.

Rather than concentrating only on children's play equipment, the redesigned park is intended to combine recreation, sport, family time and community activities.

The café kiosk, stage and multifunctional plaza add facilities that can support the park throughout the day and for organised events.

The renovation is also intended to improve the wider public environment around Ses Païsses.

The Town Hall says the park project, together with a planned road resurfacing programme, represents a significant investment in the Can Bonet and Ses Païsses area.

The aim is to modernise public infrastructure while creating a more usable community space.
