Summer-like weather is set to continue across much of Spain this week, despite the arrival of astronomical autumn on Wednesday, September 23.

The latest forecast from Spain's state meteorological agency points to above-average temperatures, plenty of sunshine and generally limited rainfall across much of the country between Monday, September 21 and Thursday, September 24.

Warm Weather Continues Across Spain

The week is beginning with largely settled conditions across Spain.

AEMET forecasts temperatures clearly above normal for late September across much of the country, with the warmest conditions expected from Tuesday onwards.

In broad areas of the interior, temperatures are expected to reach 32°C to 34°C, while some locations could climb to around 35°C.

The highest temperatures are expected in parts of southern Spain, the Ebro depression, Extremadura and southern Galicia.

Monday, September 21

Monday is expected to remain mostly dry and sunny across Spain.

Some cloud may develop in northern coastal areas, Galicia, parts of the Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands, but widespread rainfall is not expected.

Temperatures are set to rise across many inland areas, with several locations reaching or exceeding 30°C.

Tuesday, September 22

Warm conditions are expected to strengthen on Tuesday.

AEMET forecasts long sunny periods across much of Spain, with temperatures reaching between 32°C and 34°C across extensive inland areas.

The Mediterranean coast should remain warm, although some coastal locations may experience periods of cloud.

The north is also expected to stay generally settled, with rainfall remaining limited in most areas.

Autumn Arrives on Wednesday

Astronomical autumn officially begins in Spain in the early hours of Wednesday, September 23.

According to Spain's National Astronomical Observatory, the autumn equinox will occur at 1:05 a.m. Spanish mainland time.

Despite the seasonal change, the weather is not expected to turn autumnal immediately.

Wednesday should remain warm across much of Spain, with temperatures continuing above the usual levels for late September and generally dry conditions.

Thursday, September 24

Little change is expected on Thursday.

Much of Spain should continue to experience sunny or partly cloudy conditions, while temperatures remain unusually high for the time of year.

Some inland areas could again reach around 34°C, particularly in southern and central parts of the country.

Mediterranean areas should remain warm, although local coastal breezes may keep temperatures slightly lower than inland.

Ibiza and the Balearic Islands

The Balearic Islands are also set to retain generally warm conditions as autumn arrives.

In Eivissa, AEMET's current forecast shows clear or mostly clear skies around September 21 and 22, with daytime temperatures reaching the upper 20s Celsius.

The latest beach forecast for Ibiza shows around 29°C at Ses Figueretes on September 21 and 22, with light winds and weak swell.

Formentera is also forecast to remain warm, with temperatures around 28°C on September 21 and 27°C on September 22 at Playa de Llevant.

Sea Conditions Remain Relatively Calm

The outlook for the islands is also favourable for coastal activities during the first part of the week.

AEMET's beach forecasts indicate generally light winds and weak swell around Ibiza and Formentera, although conditions can vary between beaches and can change during the day.

Water temperatures remain in the mid to upper 20s Celsius, keeping the sea relatively warm for late September.

Rain Remains Limited

The main feature of the national forecast is the lack of widespread rainfall.

AEMET expects precipitation to remain generally scarce across Spain through the first part of the week, although local cloud and isolated showers cannot be completely ruled out in some areas.

The agency's broader outlook indicates that the warm and settled pattern is likely to continue across much of Spain at least until Friday, September 25.

A Summer-Like Start to Autumn

The arrival of autumn will therefore bring little immediate change to the weather in many parts of Spain.

From the mainland's inland regions to the Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands, temperatures are expected to remain warm while sunshine dominates much of the country.

For Ibiza, the outlook points to another stretch of warm late-September weather, with largely settled conditions and sea temperatures still comfortable for beach and boat days.
