Ibiza Local Police and the National Police carried out a joint security and prevention operation in Ibiza Town on Friday night, September 18, with controls in sa Penya and along the E-10.

The operation, coordinated through the Local Police's fourth shift, also involved Customs officers and tourism inspectors from the Consell d'Eivissa. The deployment focused on public safety, traffic controls and the detection of unauthorised passenger transport.

20 People Identified in Sa Penya

The first operation began shortly before 8pm in the sa Penya neighbourhood.

Eight National Police officers, including two commanders, and eight Local Police officers, also including two commanders, took part in the operation.

A total of 20 people were identified, while officers issued three reports under Spain's Organic Law 4/2015 for possession of narcotic substances.

The Local Police drone was also used to support surveillance during the operation.

40 Vehicles Checked on the E-10

A second operation began shortly before 11pm on the E-10, opposite the es Gorg car park.

This control included Customs personnel and tourism inspectors from the Consell d'Eivissa and focused on road and public safety, unauthorised passenger transport and the administrative status of vehicles registered abroad.

Officers checked 40 vehicles in total.

Two drivers tested positive for drugs, while another driver was subject to an administrative alcohol reading that did not reach the threshold for criminal proceedings.

Driver Detained on Outstanding Warrant

During the E-10 operation, officers also detained a driver who was subject to an outstanding search-and-arrest warrant.

The detention was made because of the existing warrant and does not in itself establish guilt for any offence.

Police also removed two vehicles using the municipal tow service.

Unauthorised Passenger Transport

Officers issued a complaint against the driver of another vehicle for carrying passengers without the required authorisation.

The conduct was classified as an infringement involving unauthorised passenger transport. According to the reported procedure, the infringement can carry a fine of up to €15,000.

Three Rental Vehicles Exceeded Their Limits

The controls also detected three rental vehicles operating above the established limits.

The cases were linked to a company described in the report as a repeat offender, with the sanctions estimated at around €10,000 for each case.

These checks form part of the wider enforcement work being carried out during the high season against irregular passenger transport and other transport-related infringements.

Further Unauthorised Transport Case in Ibiza Town

A separate intervention during the regular afternoon shift involved another vehicle suspected of carrying passengers without the necessary authorisation.

Police observed several passengers getting into the vehicle at the junction of Carrer de Joan Xicó and Via Púnica.

According to the passengers interviewed by officers, the driver had previously taken them from Ibiza Airport and was preparing to take them to an entertainment venue.

The vehicle was subsequently reported for carrying passengers without the required authorisation.

Fourth Shift Expands Police Presence

The operation forms part of the work of Ibiza Local Police's fourth shift, a special reinforcement created to increase police presence and allow more targeted inspections.

Ibiza Town Hall has previously said that the fourth shift is being used for preventive controls and specific enforcement operations, including action against unauthorised transport activities.

Recent municipal operations have involved inspections of vehicles, VTC services and other transport-related activity across Ibiza Town.

Focus on Safety and Transport Enforcement

The September 18 deployment brought together several agencies across two different control points.

The sa Penya operation concentrated primarily on public safety and prevention, while the E-10 control placed greater emphasis on road safety, vehicle checks and passenger transport.

The results included administrative reports, drug-test positives, a detention linked to an outstanding warrant, vehicle removals and complaints connected to unauthorised passenger transport.

Continued Controls During the High Season

The latest operation shows the continued use of Ibiza's fourth police shift for targeted evening and night-time controls.

With the summer season continuing into September, Local Police and other authorities are maintaining checks on public safety, traffic and transport activity in areas of Ibiza Town where these issues are being monitored.
