Ibiza is set to become the backdrop for a new international television drama after Hulu officially greenlit Heatwave, a limited series created and written by Anna Symon, the screenwriter behind Joan.

The series is set during a holiday in Ibiza and centres on two couples whose reunion brings long-buried secrets and tensions to the surface.

The Hulu project was announced on September 18, 2026, with production details, casting and a release date yet to be confirmed.

A story of two couples in Ibiza

Heatwave follows Daisy and Andy and Mac and Clare, two couples whose lives become increasingly complicated when they reunite after years without contact.

According to the series description, their holiday exposes unresolved conflicts and secrets, creating tensions within both relationships.

Her television credits also include work on Deep Water.

Shannon Murphy will direct

Australian filmmaker Shannon Murphy is attached to direct Heatwave.

Murphy previously directed projects including Babyteeth and worked on the FX series Dying for Sex.

She is also an executive producer on Heatwave alongside Symon and the other members of the production team.

From HBO Max development to Hulu

Heatwave is not an entirely new television concept.

The project was previously reported in 2022 as being developed for HBO Max, with Symon writing and Murphy attached to direct. At that stage, the series was being developed by Tiger Aspect Productions and was described as an Ibiza-set limited series.

A 2022 production bulletin also listed Spain as the location for the project and described Heatwave as an elevated thriller set in Ibiza.

The latest announcement confirms that the project has now found its home at Hulu.

The production team

Heatwave is executive produced by Symon, Murphy, Lucy Bedford and Kathleen McCaffrey.

Bedford is producing through B Major Productions, while McCaffrey is attached through little gems. Banijay UK is also involved in the project.

The production therefore brings together British and Australian television talent with a story specifically centred on Ibiza.

No cast has been announced

One important detail remains unknown: the cast.

The current announcement identifies the four principal characters as Daisy, Andy, Mac and Clare, but no actors have yet been publicly announced for those roles.
