The Faro de Ses Coves Blanques in Sant Antoni will host a new solo exhibition by artist Elisabeth Louy from September 25 to October 10, 2026.

Titled “Miratges Reales”, the exhibition is curated by Nina Vagić and presents a new series of works created directly on antique mirrors.

The unusual support becomes an integral part of the artwork, combining Louy's engraved lines with the reflections of visitors and the changing light of the exhibition space.

An exhibition built around reflection

The works in “Miratges Reales” feature female figures, veiled characters, landscapes, trees and references to Mediterranean and Phoenician imagery.

Rather than being presented on conventional canvas or paper, the images are engraved onto old mirrors.

This means the artwork changes visually as the viewer moves around it. The fixed engraved lines remain in place, while the reflected image and surrounding light change according to the position of the visitor.

Fifteen years of collecting old mirrors

Louy's relationship with antique mirrors goes back more than 15 years.

According to the exhibition presentation, the artist has collected mirrors from antique markets and bazaars in different parts of the world, as well as pieces belonging to her family collection.

The age and imperfections of the mirrors are not removed or hidden. Their patina, marks and signs of wear become part of the finished works.

The result brings together the history already contained in each mirror with the contemporary images Louy engraves onto its surface.

The mirror as part of the artwork

In “Miratges Reales”, the mirror is more than simply a surface on which an image is placed.

Its reflective quality means that the viewer becomes part of what is being seen.

As people move through the exhibition, their reflections appear within the works, creating an element that cannot remain completely static.

This relationship between the permanent engraved line and the changing reflection is central to the exhibition's concept.

Mediterranean and Phoenician references

The imagery includes references to the Mediterranean and to Phoenician culture, connecting the exhibition with the wider cultural landscape of Ibiza.

Figures, natural elements and landscapes appear alongside these references, creating a visual language that brings together historical and contemporary influences.

The exhibition therefore places Louy's work within a setting where the island's Mediterranean history provides part of the surrounding context.

A connection to Persian heritage

The use of mirrors also has a personal dimension for Louy.

The exhibition presentation connects her use of reflective surfaces with her Persian heritage and with the historical use of mirrored surfaces in Persian architecture.

In “Miratges Reales”, this reference is incorporated into a contemporary artistic approach, with the mirror becoming a meeting point between inherited cultural references, memory and the viewer's own reflection.

The passage of time remains visible

One of the defining features of the exhibition is that the mirrors retain their imperfections.

Scratches, patina and other signs of age remain visible rather than being treated as defects.

These marks provide a physical record of the objects' previous lives and become part of the new works.

The exhibition therefore places old objects and newly created imagery together, allowing the history of the mirror to remain visible beneath and around the contemporary engraving.

Elisabeth Louy in Ibiza

“Miratges Reales” follows previous exhibitions by Louy in Ibiza.

The artist has previously presented work on the island, including the “Nomad” exhibition at Gallery Obra 23 in Can Bufí and other exhibitions in Ibiza's cultural spaces.

Her return with “Miratges Reales” continues her relationship with Ibiza's art scene, this time through a project specifically developed around antique mirrors.

Opening night

The exhibition officially opens on Friday, September 25.

The opening event runs from 18:30 to 21:30 at the Faro de Ses Coves Blanques in Sant Antoni.

The exhibition then remains open to the public until October 10.

A changing image for every visitor

The central idea behind “Miratges Reales” is particularly suited to the use of mirrors.

The engraved drawings remain physically fixed, but the reflection surrounding them is constantly changing.

Different visitors, positions, lighting conditions and movements can therefore alter what appears within the same artwork.

It gives the exhibition a participatory element without requiring the works themselves to move.

Between memory and the present

By working with mirrors that already carry signs of age, Louy places new drawings on objects that have their own visual history.

The old surfaces retain their marks and imperfections while the newly engraved figures and landscapes introduce another layer.

The resulting works bring together several different elements: the history of the objects, Louy's contemporary line work, references to Mediterranean and Phoenician imagery, and the reflection of whoever is standing in front of them.

From September 25, visitors to the Faro de Ses Coves Blanques will be able to see Elisabeth Louy's latest series and experience the way her engraved images interact with antique reflective surfaces.

The exhibition runs for just over two weeks, ending on October 10.

For Sant Antoni's cultural calendar, “Miratges Reales” adds another exhibition to the town's autumn programme while giving the historic lighthouse space a new setting for contemporary art.
