Ibiza is preparing to leave astronomical summer behind, with autumn officially arriving in the early hours of Wednesday, September 23.

For an island where the season stretches well beyond the traditional summer calendar, however, September 22 is far from the end of Ibiza's activity. Beaches, restaurants, cultural events and nightlife continue, although the island is beginning to move into a noticeably different phase of the year.

Autumn Arrives on September 23

Astronomical autumn begins in the Northern Hemisphere at 01:05 Spanish mainland time on Wednesday, September 23.

The equinox marks the point when the Sun crosses the celestial equator on its apparent movement southward. From this point, daylight hours gradually become shorter as the island moves towards winter.

The change is astronomical rather than an immediate switch in Ibiza's weather.

Summer Weather Has Not Disappeared

The arrival of autumn does not mean that Ibiza suddenly becomes cold.

September continues to bring warm Mediterranean conditions, with AEMET observations showing daytime temperatures close to or above 30°C on several days earlier this month.

At the Eivissa weather station, the maximum temperature reached 35.3°C on September 7, while September 20 reached 29.9°C.

What changes more noticeably in September is the rhythm of the island.

The busiest weeks of July and August are behind Ibiza, and the intensity associated with peak season gradually eases.

The island still receives visitors, but September brings a different balance between tourism, local life and the remaining season.

For residents, this transition can mean quieter roads, beaches and public spaces compared with the height of August, even though Ibiza remains active.

The Nightlife Season Continues

Autumn arriving does not mean Ibiza's club season is finished.

At [UNVRS], for example, the 2026 season is scheduled to continue until its official closing party on Saturday, October 10.

Other clubs also have September closing dates and programmes extending into the final days of the month.

September Is Still Busy on the Calendar

Ibiza's official tourism calendar shows that the island continues to host events after the equinox.

The Día del Turista runs from September 21 to 25, while the Fira Marinera Medieval in Sant Antoni is scheduled from September 24 to 27.

The festivities of Sant Miquel take place on September 29, providing another example of how Ibiza's cultural calendar continues into the autumn.

More Than the Clubbing Season

September also marks a transition towards some of the activities that become particularly attractive as the island becomes quieter.

Ibiza's official tourism information highlights autumn as a period for exploring nature, heritage, cycling, hiking, local food and traditional events.

The change in pace allows visitors to experience the island beyond its busiest beach and nightlife periods.

A Different Ibiza in the Weeks Ahead

The end of astronomical summer therefore represents a change rather than a full stop.

The island remains warm, the sea remains inviting and the events calendar continues to run, but the atmosphere gradually becomes less concentrated around the peak weeks of the season.

For many visitors, September and early October offer a chance to experience Ibiza with more space while still enjoying much of what makes the island a major Mediterranean destination.
