The Fundación Abel Matutes invested €1.56 million in social and environmental initiatives during 2025, while expanding its work across six countries and maintaining a strong focus on Ibiza and Formentera.

The foundation presented its first institutional annual report in Ibiza this week, detailing more than 250 initiatives that reached over 9,800 beneficiaries during the year.

Of those activities, 72 were carried out in Ibiza and Formentera, covering social and childhood programmes, grassroots sport and cultural initiatives.

Investment Increased by Almost 50%

The foundation's total expenditure reached €1,564,179.11 in 2025, compared with €1,046,373.35 in 2024.

That represents an increase of €517,805.76, or approximately 50% in a single year.

The largest allocation went to social and educational programmes, which received €690,167.54.

Employment training accounted for €340,265.78, while social-impact initiatives received €282,264.25. A further €177,543.99 was allocated to the promotion of Ibiza and Formentera, with environmental projects receiving €73,937.55.

72 Projects in Ibiza and Formentera

The Pitiusan islands remained an important part of the foundation's activity despite its growing international presence.

The 72 local actions were divided into 40 projects focused on social and childhood programmes, 23 related to sport and nine dedicated to culture.

The foundation was established in 1978 and has gradually extended its activity to destinations where companies associated with the Matutes business group operate.

Its current stated areas of work include education and employment training, social action, environmental protection, and the promotion of culture, research and sport in Ibiza and Formentera.

25 of 30 Trainees Are Now Working

One of the programmes highlighted in the annual report is the professional training centre developed in Ibiza together with Cáritas Diocesana de Ibiza and the Escuela de Hostelería.

During its first edition, 30 people were trained as kitchen assistants and room attendants.

According to the foundation, 25 of those participants are now working.

The programme is intended to provide people facing difficulties accessing training and employment with practical skills that can help them enter the wider labour market, rather than limiting opportunities to employment within Palladium Hotel Group.

The result means that 25 of the 30 participants from the first edition, or around 83%, are currently working, according to the foundation's reported figures.

More Than 9,800 Beneficiaries

The foundation's work during 2025 extended considerably beyond Ibiza.

Together with Palladium Cares, it supported more than 250 initiatives in six countries and reached more than 9,800 beneficiaries.

The programmes involved around 1,200 volunteers from the hotel group, while the international activities covered areas including employment training, social support, environmental projects and responses to emergencies.

Cáritas Partnership in Ibiza

Cáritas Diocesana de Ibiza was among the organisations represented at the presentation of the annual report.

Its director, Juan Torres Marí, highlighted the importance of training and employment opportunities for people experiencing vulnerability on the island.

He described the professional training centre as more than simply a place for acquiring technical skills, saying it also provides participants with an opportunity to develop confidence and improve their prospects of entering the labour market.

The foundation has also supported the reconstruction of Cáritas' Casa de Betania following its collapse, another project highlighted in the 2025 activity report.

Posidonia Takes Centre Stage

Environmental conservation was another major focus of the presentation in Ibiza.

The foundation showcased its work through the Blue Life Hub at the Grand Palladium Select Palace Ibiza in Platja d'en Bossa, where visitors can learn about Mediterranean marine ecosystems and the importance of Posidonia oceanica.

The project combines public awareness, professional training and what the organisation describes as regenerative tourism, including activities connected with the conservation and restoration of marine habitats.

During the past year, the project also monitored 19 seahorses in Ibiza, according to the foundation's presentation.

Environmental investment was one of the areas that recorded the strongest growth during 2025, increasing by 198.91% compared with the previous year.

Education and Employment Remain Key Priorities

The foundation continues to identify education and employment training as central parts of its work.

Alongside the professional training centre in Ibiza, it maintains three annual scholarships linked to the Universitat de les Illes Balears and collaborates with the Escuela de Hostelería on training for tourism professionals.

Internationally, the foundation also operates training centres designed to provide practical skills in areas such as housekeeping, bar work, maintenance, gardening and air conditioning.

More than 3,200 people passed through those training centres during 2025, according to the foundation's presentation.

A Growing International Foundation With Ibiza at Its Core

The 2025 report reflects a foundation that has expanded well beyond the Pitiusas while continuing to maintain a substantial programme on the islands.

Its activities now extend across countries including Spain, Italy, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Brazil, while Ibiza and Formentera accounted for 72 of the 250-plus initiatives recorded during the year.

For Ibiza, the most locally significant figures include the 30 people who completed the first employment-training programme with Cáritas and the Escuela de Hostelería, 25 of whom are now working, alongside dozens of social, sporting, cultural and environmental initiatives.

The foundation says its international growth will continue, but its leadership has also emphasised that Ibiza remains central to its identity and ongoing work.
