Tourist spending in Ibiza and Formentera exceeded €1 billion in a single month for the first time in July 2026, according to the latest tourism expenditure data from IBESTAT and Spain's National Statistics Institute.

Visitors with Ibiza and Formentera as their main destination spent a combined €1.059 billion during July, representing an increase of 6.4% compared with July 2025.

The figure marks a new monthly record for tourist expenditure in the Pitiusas.

€1.059 Billion Spent in July

The €1.059 billion figure represents the total tourist expenditure recorded for Ibiza and Formentera during July.

The increase compared with the same month in 2025 was approximately 6.4%.

This does not mean that €1.059 billion was generated as local business revenue. The EGATUR measurement tracks expenditure by tourists during their trips and includes different categories of spending associated with their stay. 

Spending Per Tourist Also Increased

Average spending per tourist reached approximately €1,489 during the stay in Ibiza and Formentera.

That represented an increase of around 5.8% compared with July 2025.

Daily expenditure stood at approximately €271 per tourist, remaining broadly at the same level as the previous year.

The Pitiusas therefore continued to record a particularly high level of spending per visitor, even as the total number of tourists and the total amount spent are measured separately. 

International Visitors Accounted for Most Spending

International visitors generated approximately €928 million of the July total.

That represented an increase of 6.4% compared with July 2025.

Domestic tourists contributed around €131 million, also an increase of approximately 6.5% year on year.

The figures show that international tourism continues to account for the majority of expenditure recorded in the Pitiusas. 

The Pitiusas Accounted for Almost a Quarter of Balearic Tourist Spending

Across the entire Balearic Islands, tourist expenditure reached approximately €4.56 billion in July.

Ibiza and Formentera therefore accounted for around 23.2% of the total Balearic tourist expenditure during the month.

Mallorca represented the largest share, with approximately €3.05 billion, while Menorca recorded around €453 million. 

Ibiza and Formentera Lead in Daily Spending

One notable feature of the July figures is the amount spent per day.

Tourists in Ibiza and Formentera spent approximately €271 per person per day.

That was higher than the corresponding figures for Mallorca and Menorca, which were approximately €237 and €201 respectively.

The figures therefore show that the Pitiusas continue to attract visitors with relatively high daily expenditure.

However, spending data alone do not establish why visitors spend more or how that expenditure is distributed among different businesses and sectors.

€2.585 Billion Between January and July

The July record forms part of a strong cumulative result for the first seven months of 2026.

Tourist expenditure in Ibiza and Formentera reached approximately €2.585 billion between January and July.

That was around 7.5% higher than the €2.403 billion recorded during the same period of 2025.

The increase over the first seven months was therefore slightly greater than the annual increase recorded for July alone. 

Spending Increased More Than Visitor Numbers

The July figures are particularly relevant when looking at the relationship between tourism volume and tourism value.

Across the Balearic Islands, tourist arrivals increased only slightly in July, while expenditure rose much more strongly.

The Balearics recorded approximately €4.56 billion in tourist spending during the month, an increase of around 8%, while tourist arrivals increased by only about 0.2%.

That means the increase in expenditure cannot simply be explained by a similar increase in the number of visitors. 

For the Pitiusas specifically, the expenditure figures show a rise in spending, but they should not automatically be interpreted as proof that the islands have moved towards a fundamentally different tourism model.

What Tourist Spending Includes

EGATUR measures expenditure by tourists during their trips and divides spending into different categories.

Across the Balearic Islands, July expenditure included accommodation, transport, food and drinks, activities, shopping and package holidays, among other categories.

The precise distribution varies by destination and visitor type.

This is why the €1.059 billion Pitiusan figure should be understood as total tourist expenditure rather than a direct measure of turnover generated by hotels, restaurants, clubs or other individual sectors. 

A Record Figure, But Not a Measure of Profit

The €1 billion milestone is significant because it establishes a new monthly record for tourist expenditure in Ibiza and Formentera.

It does not, however, tell us how profitable the tourism sector was during July.

Higher spending can coexist with higher operating costs, wages, rents, energy prices and other expenses.

Nor does the statistic show how much of the expenditure remained within the local economy.

Those questions require different economic indicators.

A Strong July for Tourism Spending

The latest figures nevertheless show that tourist expenditure in the Pitiusas continued to grow during the peak summer month.

With €1.059 billion recorded in July and €2.585 billion accumulated between January and July, Ibiza and Formentera remain responsible for a substantial share of tourism expenditure across the Balearic Islands.

The figures also reinforce the distinction between tourism volume and tourism value, with expenditure rising significantly even when visitor numbers do not increase at the same rate.

The July data are provisional, meaning the figures can still be revised as the statistical series is updated.
