Fundación Ses12naus has opened applications for its 2026-2027 artistic residency programme in Ibiza, inviting visual artists and curators from the Balearic Islands, Spain and Europe to submit projects connected to the island's cultural, social and natural context.

Four projects will be selected for the new edition, which is structured in two residency phases running from late 2026 into spring 2027.

Applications are open until September 30, 2026 at 23:59 CEST.

Four Projects Will Be Selected

The new call will select four projects in total.

Two places are reserved for projects from the Balearic Islands, one for a project from elsewhere in Spain and one for a project from another European country.

The programme is open to visual artists and curatorial professionals at any stage of their careers, with no age limit.

Ibiza at the Centre of the Projects

Selected proposals must establish a meaningful relationship with Ibiza.

Ses12naus says the residency is intended for artistic and curatorial practices that engage with the island's communities, imaginaries and cultural and natural heritage.

The aim is not simply for artists to work in Ibiza, but for the island itself to become part of the research and creative process.

Two Phases Across 2026 and 2027

The residency is divided into two on-site phases, separated by a period of remote work and follow-up.

The first phase, dedicated to research and exploration, will take place from November 21 to December 13, 2026.

During this period, selected participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with Ibiza, carry out fieldwork and contextual research and establish relationships with local agents, spaces and communities.

The second phase will run from May 17 to June 7, 2027.

This stage will focus on developing and producing the projects and will culminate in a public presentation of the work and research developed during the residency.

Ongoing Support Between the Stays

The programme does not end between the two periods in Ibiza.

Ses12naus says its team will provide continued follow-up and support while participants develop and refine their projects remotely.

The format is designed to give artists and curators time to move from an initial period of observation and research towards a more developed final project.

Financial Support

Each selected resident will receive €1,800 in fees, divided into €900 for each phase of the residency.

Participants can also receive additional support connected to travel and public activities.

For residents based in Spain, travel support can reach €330, while participants from other European countries can receive up to €770.

A further €300 is available for each public activity carried out as part of the residency.

Production Support for Artists

Artists selected for the programme can receive up to €3,000 towards production and public presentation costs.

The programme also provides up to €500 for installation expenses connected with the final presentation and up to €200 for associated public activities.

For curators, the published terms provide up to €500 for final presentation expenses and up to €200 for public activities.

Accommodation and Working Space

The residency also includes practical support for participants during their time in Ibiza.

Published programme information includes accommodation, a working space at La Carpintería, shared car access, airport transfers and ongoing curatorial support.

These resources are intended to give participants the time and practical infrastructure needed to research and develop their projects on the island.

From Research to Public Presentation

One of the defining features of the programme is its emphasis on a process rather than a short-term finished project.

The first residency phase allows participants to investigate the island and develop relationships with local communities and contexts.

The second phase then provides the opportunity to turn that research into a more developed artistic or curatorial project before presenting the results publicly.

Ses12naus Has a Decade of Residency Experience

The new call comes as Ses12naus marks around a decade of activity in Ibiza.

Previous residency participants have included artists such as Nina Beier, Martine Feipel and Jean Bechameil, Ndayé Kouagou, Andrés Izquierdo, Cristina Stolhe, Keiken, Ana Laura Aláez and Gala Knörr, among others.

The programme has explored subjects connected to Ibiza's landscape, architecture, cultural life, technology and contemporary social questions.

Previous Edition Received More Than 200 Applications

The 2025-2026 edition received more than 200 applications, according to Ses12naus.

The selected artists for that edition included Gala Knörr, Diogo da Cruz and Marina Marón.

Their projects addressed themes including club culture, traditional Ibicencan architecture and the landscapes and temporalities associated with the island's salt flats and coastline.

A Residency Built Around Ibiza

The new programme continues Ses12naus' approach of using Ibiza not simply as a location for an artistic stay, but as an active part of the creative process.

Participants are expected to engage with the island through research, conversations, observation and contact with local spaces and communities.

That approach places particular emphasis on creating projects that respond to the specific characteristics of Ibiza.

Who Can Apply?

The call is open to visual artists and curators living in the Balearic Islands, Spain or other European countries.

There is no age limit and applicants can be at any stage of their career.

Projects from a range of artistic and curatorial practices can be considered, provided they are capable of establishing a meaningful relationship with Ibiza and its cultural, social or natural context.

Applications must be submitted by September 30, 2026 at 23:59 CEST.
