Pepe Roselló, the founder and owner of Space Ibiza, has celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends in Ibiza.

Video shared by Space Eat & Dance shows Roselló smiling, dancing with his loved ones and blowing out the candles on a birthday cake decorated with a large number 90.

The celebration marks another milestone in the life of one of the figures most closely associated with Ibiza's international club history.

A 90th birthday celebration

The birthday gathering brought together family members and friends to celebrate Roselló reaching 90.

Images from the occasion show him actively taking part in the festivities, including dancing alongside people close to him.

One of the central moments of the celebration came when Roselló blew out the candles on the birthday cake, with the number 90 prominently displayed.

Born in Sant Antoni

Roselló was born in Sant Antoni de Portmany in 1936.

His early life was closely connected to the town, where he grew up as Ibiza was beginning to experience major social and economic changes that would eventually transform the island's tourism industry.

His later career would become closely intertwined with the development of Ibiza's nightlife and entertainment scene.

The beginning of Space Ibiza

Roselló's name is inseparable from Space Ibiza.

Space's own historical archive identifies him as the founder and owner who took control of the club in 1989.

At the time, Playa d'en Bossa was not yet the international nightlife destination it would later become, and the club developed a distinctive identity around music, extended opening hours and its famous Terrace.

The venue went on to become a major part of Ibiza's club culture.

Space became an international institution

Over the years, Space Ibiza attracted DJs and clubbers from around the world.

The club's own historical material records its development into a major club and highlights the importance of its Terrace and long-running Sunday sessions.

Space also accumulated international awards, including the DJ Mag Best Club in the World award in 2016, its final year of operation.

Its history became closely linked with artists including Carl Cox, whose long association with the club continued through its final season.

The final Space season

Space Ibiza closed its doors in October 2016 after 27 years.

The final closing programme took place around October 2 and 3, with more than 100 artists involved across the farewell events.

Carl Cox performed the final set in the club's Main Room, marking the end of Space's original run in Playa d'en Bossa.

For Roselló, it marked the end of one of the most important chapters of his professional life.

A new Space project in Sant Antoni

Roselló later returned to the hospitality and music scene with Space Eat & Dance.

The project opened in his hometown of Sant Antoni in 2022 and brought the Space name back into an active Ibiza venue.

The restaurant combines Mediterranean dining with music and a strong focus on the sunset setting along the Sant Antoni coast.

The project represents a continuation of Roselló's connection with music and hospitality, although it is a different concept from the former Space nightclub in Playa d'en Bossa.

Space Eat & Dance today

Space Eat & Dance is located on the Ses Variades coastline in Sant Antoni.

The venue combines a restaurant, cocktail bar, terrace and music programme, with sunset forming an important part of the daily experience.

Its current offering also continues Roselló's interest in bringing music together with gastronomy and the Ibiza landscape.

The restaurant has allowed Roselló to remain involved in Ibiza's hospitality and music scene following the closure of the original club.

Roselló's career spans a period in which Ibiza changed dramatically.

He began working in entertainment and hospitality decades before Space opened, becoming involved in several businesses in Sant Antoni before developing the club that ultimately gave him international recognition.
