Azerbaijan's First Vice-President and First Lady, Mehriban Aliyeva, reportedly spent a week in Ibiza earlier this month with one of her daughters and an entourage of around 30 people.

The reported visit took place from September 9 to September 15, according to local reporting, which said the group stayed on the island during the period and travelled aboard an Azerbaijani government-operated Airbus A340.

The trip has attracted attention because of the aircraft used and because no official announcement of the Ibiza visit has been identified.

Government-operated Airbus spotted in Ibiza

The aircraft linked to the visit is an Airbus A340-600 registered as 4K-AI08.

Aircraft records identify the plane as being associated with the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with Azerbaijan Airlines listed as its operator. The aircraft is configured for VIP use rather than conventional airline service.

The aircraft was photographed and tracked in Ibiza during September, making its presence at the airport independently identifiable.

Reported arrival on September 9

A local aviation report recorded the A340 in Ibiza on September 9, describing a routing from Baku via Málaga to Ibiza and back to Baku.

The aircraft was subsequently reported to have remained at Ibiza Airport for approximately a week before departing on September 15.

The presence and movements of the aircraft can be documented, but publicly available flight information does not by itself establish the identities of all passengers.

Aliyeva and her daughter reportedly travelled to Ibiza

Local reporting says Mehriban Aliyeva travelled to Ibiza with one of her daughters and an entourage of approximately 30 people, described as including advisers and security personnel.

The use of an aircraft associated with the Azerbaijani government has raised questions about whether the reported holiday involved state resources.

Azerbaijan's law on the ethical conduct of civil servants states that state property, funds, vehicles and other logistical resources must be used efficiently and must not be used for personal benefit or purposes unrelated to official duties.
