A car collided violently with a school transport bus on the road between Es Cubells and Sant Josep de sa Talaia on Wednesday afternoon, 14 October 2026, leaving both vehicles badly damaged and forcing the temporary closure of the road.
The collision occurred at approximately 14:30, at kilometre 3 of the EI-703. Despite the severity of the impact, no injuries were reported among the people in either vehicle in the initial information from the scene.
The bus had already completed its school transport route and was not carrying pupils at the time. Only the driver and a school monitor remained on board.
Car Skids on a Bend and Strikes the Bus
According to information provided by bus operator Alsa, the car was travelling in the opposite direction when it skidded on a bend and collided with the front-left axle of the bus.
The impact was concentrated on the front and left side of the bus, causing substantial damage. The car was left beyond economical repair and was reported as a total write-off.
Both vehicles ended up positioned across the roadway, blocking traffic on the EI-703 between Es Cubells and Sant Josep.
The precise circumstances of the collision have not been independently established, and the available information does not indicate that a formal determination of responsibility has been made.
Road Closed While Vehicles Were Removed
The collision led to a prolonged interruption to traffic as emergency and road crews worked to clear the scene.
Police from Sant Josep and Guardia Civil Traffic officers attended, together with staff from the Island Council’s Xarxa Viària team, who carried out cleaning work on the road.
Removing the damaged bus required a recovery truck from Grúas Ibiza. The road remained closed for more than three hours while the operation was completed.
The disruption affected an important local route linking Es Cubells with Sant Josep de sa Talaia.
No Injuries Reported
Although the damage to both vehicles was considerable, the initial reports said nobody had been injured. Alsa confirmed that the bus driver and school monitor were unharmed and that there were no pupils aboard because the school transport journey had already finished.
The incident is a reminder of the disruption a serious collision can cause on Ibiza’s roads, even when no injuries are reported. Drivers travelling on bends and rural routes should remain alert to changing road conditions and maintain a safe speed.
