Ibiza’s landscapes, Mediterranean light and connection to the sea take centre stage in a new art exhibition opening at Ocean Drive Ibiza on Saturday, 17 October. Artist Lidia Abril presents Arteamor por las islas: Piel de mar, a collection inspired by the emotions, memories and natural beauty of Ibiza and Formentera.
Running until 12 November 2026, the exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to experience the Pitiusas through paintings that combine colour, texture and materials drawn from the islands themselves. Admission is free.
Art Inspired by Ibiza and Formentera
For Lidia Abril, the islands are more than a subject to paint. They are the inspiration behind an artistic project shaped by a personal connection to the Mediterranean.
The collection explores the sea, sunlight, sand, salt and changing colours of the landscape. Rather than simply depicting familiar coastal scenes, Abril seeks to express the atmosphere of Ibiza and Formentera, including their sense of freedom, tranquillity and connection with nature.
A distinctive feature of the works is the incorporation of real materials from the Pitiusas. Sand and sea salt are combined with paint and textured surfaces, giving the canvases a physical connection to the landscapes that inspired them.
The result is an exhibition that invites visitors to look beyond the islands’ scenery and consider the feelings and memories associated with living in or visiting the Mediterranean.
From a Career in Finance to Painting
Abril’s relationship with painting began in childhood, although she spent more than two decades working professionally in the financial sector before returning to her artistic practice.
She has lived in Ibiza since 2013, and the islands have become central to her creative identity. Through her work, she combines acrylic painting and textures to translate her emotional connection to the Pitiusas into visual form.
Describing painting as her meditation, Abril presents art as a way to find calm, express emotions and reconnect with herself. Her artistic concept, Arteamor por las islas, brings together art and love for the islands, turning personal experience into colour, texture and light.
Her exhibition history began in Valencia before expanding to Ibiza, reflecting different stages of her life and artistic development.
A Free Cultural Visit in Marina Botafoch
The exhibition takes place at Ocean Drive Ibiza, the hotel located in the Marina Botafoch area of Ibiza Town, close to Talamanca Beach.
Open from 17 October to 12 November, Piel de mar provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to discover a different perspective on the Pitiusas through contemporary art. Its use of natural materials also gives the collection a tangible connection to the environment that inspires it.
Admission is free, making it an accessible cultural stop for anyone interested in art, the Mediterranean and the landscapes of Ibiza and Formentera.
