W Ibiza Looks to Strengthen Its Local Identity as Hotel Continues Public-Area Renovation

October 06, 2026

W Ibiza is entering a new stage of its development under general manager Tomás Rado, with the Santa Eulària hotel continuing a renovation of its public areas while placing greater emphasis on local culture, personalised experiences and its relationship with the island.

Rado was part of the team that helped open W Ibiza between 2019 and 2021 and returned to the property as general manager in 2025.

He describes the hotel today as a more mature operation, with an established team and a stronger relationship with its destination.

A New Focus for W Ibiza

According to Rado, the hotel's approach is evolving alongside the wider W Hotels brand.

Rather than defining luxury primarily through material elements, the focus is increasingly on personalisation, wellbeing, gastronomy, culture and experiences connected to the destination.

The ambition is for guests to feel that they are experiencing Ibiza through W Ibiza rather than simply staying in a luxury hotel.

The property's location in Santa Eulària, its use of local products and suppliers, Mediterranean-inspired design and programme of music, creativity and lifestyle experiences are all part of that approach.

Renovation Continues

One of the most visible elements of the hotel's current development is its renovation programme.

Work on the entrance, lobby and W Lounge formed part of the first phase of the refurbishment ahead of the 2026 season.

The wider project includes the main entrance and several public areas, with further work planned for the coming winter.

Rado describes the project as a long-term investment intended to modernise important spaces while retaining what he describes as the hotel's Mediterranean and local character.

The aim is not simply an aesthetic update, but to create spaces that are more welcoming, functional and connected to the surroundings of Santa Eulària.

A Premium Market With Changing Expectations

Rado describes demand during the 2026 season as solid in W Ibiza's premium segment.

He says the hotel is seeing growing interest in experiences combining authenticity, wellbeing and highly personalised service.

According to the general manager, the hotel is also seeing an increase in repeat guests and Marriott Bonvoy members.

The main international markets identified by Rado include the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Spain and other European countries.

These observations relate specifically to W Ibiza's own business and guest profile rather than representing overall tourism figures for Ibiza.

Less Time, More Experiences

Rado also identifies a trend towards shorter stays combined with greater spending on experiences.

He says guests are increasingly looking to make the most of their time on the island and are prepared to invest in gastronomy, wellbeing and personalised activities that add value to their stay.

He describes this as part of a broader change in the definition of luxury.

In his view, luxury is becoming less about conspicuous material consumption and more about time, privacy, wellbeing, personalisation and access to distinctive experiences.

Santa Eulària's Growing Role

Rado also sees Santa Eulària as increasingly attractive to travellers looking for a different side of Ibiza.

He points to the municipality's gastronomy, natural surroundings and more relaxed character as qualities that appeal to visitors interested in authenticity and tranquillity.

For W Ibiza, that positioning provides an alternative to the island's better-known nightlife image.

The hotel believes there is growing demand for experiences centred on relaxation, family travel, culture, wellbeing and sustainability.

Connecting With the Local Community

W Ibiza's strategy also includes strengthening its relationship with the local community.

Rado says the hotel wants to be an open and connected part of Santa Eulària rather than functioning only as accommodation for international visitors.

That includes supporting local employment, working with businesses on the island and contributing to the destination's economic, social and cultural development.

The hotel also highlights its restaurants, spaces and events as areas that can be experienced by residents as well as hotel guests.

Green Key Certification

Sustainability is another part of the hotel's current positioning.

W Ibiza has obtained Green Key certification, which Marriott currently lists among the hotel's sustainability credentials.

The hotel says its sustainability work includes efforts related to energy and water consumption, waste reduction, local suppliers and environmental initiatives. Marriott also identifies energy-efficient systems, locally inspired culinary experiences and a sustainability committee among the hotel's initiatives.

The certification forms part of the property's wider attempt to combine luxury hospitality with a lower-impact approach to operations.

Looking Beyond the Hotel Stay

For Rado, the long-term objective is to strengthen W Ibiza's position within the lifestyle-luxury market while making the connection with Ibiza more central to the guest experience.

That means putting greater weight on gastronomy, wellness, carefully selected events and personalised activities rather than relying solely on the traditional definition of a luxury hotel.

The approach also reflects a broader shift in the island's hospitality market, where visitors increasingly look for experiences that connect accommodation with the destination itself.

The Next Stage for W Ibiza

The continued renovation of the hotel's public areas will be one of the most visible parts of W Ibiza's next stage.

The project is planned to continue through the coming winter, with the objective of modernising key spaces while maintaining the Mediterranean character of the property.

For Rado, the longer-term goal is clear: to establish W Ibiza as an international lifestyle-luxury reference while strengthening the relationship between the hotel, Santa Eulària and the wider island.

The strategy puts the destination itself at the centre of the experience, with the hotel aiming to offer guests not simply a place to stay, but a more personalised way of experiencing Ibiza.
