A van has been taken off the road in Ibiza after authorities detected it allegedly being used to transport passengers without the required licence.

The intervention forms part of a wider enforcement campaign against illegal passenger transport on the island, with the driver facing a proposed €15,000 fine.

Vehicle Removed From Service

The irregular transport service was detected during a coordinated inspection operation in Ibiza.

After officers identified the van as operating without the necessary authorisation for passenger transport, the vehicle was immobilised and removed from circulation.

The driver was reported for a serious infringement of the regulations governing passenger transport.

The Guardia Civil has already reported numerous interventions involving vehicles allegedly operating without the required passenger-transport authorisation, while local police and Consell inspectors have also carried out roadside controls.

In July, 14 suspected pirate taxis had already been intercepted during the summer campaign, with drivers facing sanctions of up to €15,000 and vehicle removal where passengers were being transported illegally.

Risks for Passengers

Authorities have repeatedly warned residents and visitors against using unauthorised passenger services.

Licensed taxis and other authorised transport operators are subject to regulatory requirements covering vehicles, insurance, drivers and operating conditions.

Illegal operators do not provide the same regulatory guarantees, potentially leaving passengers exposed if an accident or other incident occurs during a journey.

Enforcement against illegal passenger transport is expected to continue through the remainder of the summer campaign.
