One of the jewels of traditional Spanish clothing was the printed scarves, pieces made of different fabrics: wool, cotton, silk, and percale, used by women in the early 19th century. 

Today, we want to focus on one of the most characteristic scarves of traditional Extremaduran clothing, which today can be seen as an accessory for regional costumes in numerous towns, further enhancing, if possible, the richness of our costumes and the legacy we pass on to successive generations.

We present the "Pañuelo de Sandía" (Watermelon Scarf) or "Pañuelo Tomatero" (Tomato Scarf), depending on the town or province, named for its characteristic red color that makes it so striking in contrast with whites and creams. 

It was primarily a work scarf, used as a warm garment for fieldwork and daily tasks. It was folded into a triangle, crossed around the shoulders, and tied at the waist.
