Workers on permanent-discontinuous contracts and people finishing seasonal employment in the Balearic Islands can now check appointment availability at the regional employment service in real time, following the launch of a new booking system on 13 October 2026.

The Balearic Employment Service (SOIB) has introduced the system as part of its annual campaign to help seasonal workers manage their employment registration and related procedures as the summer tourism season comes to an end. The campaign will run until 31 January 2027.

The new platform allows users to check available appointments across SOIB offices and book either in-person or telephone assistance, including for the same day when an appointment slot is available.

How the New SOIB Appointment System Works

The booking process has four steps. Users first enter their postcode, then select the procedure and the relevant sub-procedure before choosing an available date and time.

Once the booking is completed, confirmation is sent by telephone or email.

The system is intended to make it easier for seasonal workers to find an appointment without having to repeatedly check for availability. Users can select from the available appointments across SOIB offices rather than relying solely on the office closest to their home.

Appointments can be requested through the SOIB website, its mobile application or by telephone on 900 101 951.

SOIB Adds 28 Workers During the Seasonal Campaign

To manage the expected increase in demand, SOIB has added 28 workers to its offices for the campaign. The reinforcement consists of 22 interim staff and six additional workers assigned to public-facing services.

The scale of the seasonal workload is reflected in the previous campaign's figures. Between October 2025 and January 2026, SOIB handled 82,553 appointments.

The annual campaign coincides with the end of many seasonal employment contracts, particularly in tourism-related sectors, when workers may need to reactivate their jobseeker registration or complete other employment-related procedures.

SOIB director María Luján Olivera said the new system is intended to improve access, reduce difficulties in finding appointments and make the process more straightforward.

Some Workers Can Reactivate Their Registration Online

People who are already registered with SOIB may be able to reactivate their jobseeker registration online without visiting an office or booking an appointment.

The online procedure is available through the service's jobseeker registration reactivation section. This can help workers complete the necessary administrative steps more conveniently when their seasonal employment ends.

However, people who have never registered with SOIB must still request an appointment. The same applies to foreign nationals who have not reported the renewal of their residence or work permit.

Workers should check which procedure applies to their circumstances before deciding whether an appointment is necessary.

How SOIB Registration Relates to Unemployment Benefits

SOIB registration and applications for unemployment benefits are separate procedures. The Spanish State Public Employment Service (SEPE) is responsible for processing unemployment benefits, while SOIB manages employment registration and related regional services.

For the period from 13 October 2026 to 31 January 2027, the SOIB website states that workers who submit a SEPE pre-application for unemployment benefit or subsidy after their employment ends, including any holiday period, will generally be registered automatically with SOIB.

There are exceptions. People who have never previously registered with SOIB, and foreign nationals who have not reported the renewal of their residence or work permit, must still request an appointment.

Workers should also continue to renew their jobseeker registration on the dates required in their individual circumstances, particularly if they receive unemployment benefits or subsidies.

The new appointment system is designed to make the seasonal transition easier to manage, while giving workers more ways to complete the necessary procedures online or through a scheduled appointment.
