Alarm Phone Raises Alarm Over Missing Boat Carrying 29 People Bound for Mallorca

October 15, 2026

A boat carrying 29 people that reportedly departed Algeria for Mallorca on 11 October had still not been heard from by Wednesday, 14 October, prompting renewed concern from relatives and a notification to Spain’s Maritime Rescue service.

Alarm Phone, an organisation that supports people attempting to cross the Mediterranean, raised the alarm after receiving information that the boat had left the coast of Boumerdés, Algeria, on Sunday, 11 October.

According to the organisation, there had been no further news of the people aboard since their departure. Their relatives had contacted Alarm Phone to express concern about their whereabouts.

The available reports did not confirm the boat’s current location or establish what had happened to its occupants.

Maritime Rescue Has Been Alerted

Alarm Phone said it had notified Spain’s Maritime Rescue service about the missing boat.

As of the reports published on 14 October, there was no confirmed information that the vessel had been located. Nor was there confirmation of a rescue or of the fate of the 29 people aboard.

The distinction is important: the boat and its occupants had been reported missing, but the available information did not establish that the vessel had sunk or that anyone aboard had died.

Two Other Boats Had Also Been Reported Missing

The latest alert followed reports earlier in the week involving two other boats that had reportedly departed Algeria for the Balearic Islands.

The first was said to have left Zeralda on 4 October with 17 people aboard. The second reportedly departed on 6 October carrying six people.

Maritime Rescue had deployed an aircraft and a helicopter to search waters south of the Balearic Islands for the two boats. The searches did not locate either vessel, according to information published on 12 October.

With the new alert involving 29 people, three boats carrying a reported total of 52 people had been the subject of missing-vessel alerts that week. This figure refers to the people reported aboard those three boats, not to a confirmed number of casualties.

Families Await News

The reports have highlighted the uncertainty faced by relatives when boats travelling across the western Mediterranean lose contact during the journey.

Alarm Phone said the families of those aboard the latest boat were concerned because they had received no news since its departure. The organisation called attention to the need for the people to be located safely.

As of 14 October, the publicly available information reviewed for this report did not confirm the whereabouts of the 29 people or provide a verified outcome for the three missing boats.

The situation therefore remained unresolved at the time of the latest reporting. Any subsequent information from Maritime Rescue or other authorities would be needed to establish whether the boats had been found and whether their occupants were safe.
