A Bristol-built mobile sauna is making its way across Europe to Ibiza, turning what could have been a straightforward delivery into an unusual journey centred around wild swimming, community and wellbeing.

Aether Sauna has built the sauna at its Bristol workshop, and founder Johnny Palmer decided to drive it to the island rather than simply send it by truck.

The journey began beneath Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge before continuing towards the continent, with stops planned around rivers, lakes and beaches along the route.

From Bristol to Ibiza

The sauna travelled from Bristol to Portsmouth before crossing to Spain by ferry and continuing south towards its final destination in Ibiza.

Palmer said the company wanted to make something of the journey rather than simply transport the sauna to the island, using the trip as an opportunity to connect with swimming communities along the way.

The route covers around 1,000 miles of rivers, lakes, beaches and coastal areas before the sauna reaches Ibiza.

Ibiza Will Be Its First International Location

The Ibiza installation will be Aether Sauna's first location outside the UK.

According to the company, the Ibiza sauna is scheduled to officially open on October 15, 2026, initially operating through the winter season.

The business says it wants the new location to become part of Ibiza's year-round community rather than focusing exclusively on the island's traditional summer party season.

A Different Kind of Ibiza Wellness Experience

The arrival of Aether Sauna adds to Ibiza's increasingly varied wellness offering, extending beyond traditional spas and luxury hotel treatments.

The concept combines sauna sessions with cold-water swimming and social interaction, reflecting the growing popularity of contrast therapy and outdoor wellness experiences.

The Ibiza project is planned for the east coast of the island, with the sauna expected to operate close to the beach.

Bristol Craftsmanship Comes to Ibiza

Aether designs and builds its mobile saunas in Bristol, with the company's product development, testing, training, operations and marketing centred around the city.

The move to Ibiza represents an international expansion without relocating the core business.

Palmer described the project as taking something created in Bristol to a new market while keeping much of the design, development and economic activity in the UK.

From the River Avon to the Mediterranean

Aether's existing sauna operates at Warleigh Weir, on the River Avon near Bath, where the company has developed a community built around sauna sessions, guided aufguss rituals and wild swimming.

The new Ibiza location will bring that same combination of heat, cold water and community to a very different environment.

The journey itself has become part of the story, linking Bristol's growing sauna and wild-swimming scene with Ibiza's established reputation for outdoor living, beaches and wellness.
