October 28, 2026

Two British tourists were arrested in Menorca after a 46-year-old waiter was seriously injured in an alleged assault following a dispute over money, according to reports published on 28 October.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 24 October, outside a leisure venue in the Lago area of Cala en Bosc, in the municipality of Ciutadella. The two men, aged 31 and 34, were detained by Ciutadella Local Police following the reported confrontation.

The injured worker, a Spanish national, suffered fractures to his face and leg, as well as cuts that required stitches. The reported injuries included fractures of the tibia and fibula.

Dispute Over an Alleged Debt

According to the initial police investigation as reported by local media, the confrontation began with a disagreement between the waiter and the two British tourists over an alleged debt that the men claimed the worker owed them.

The argument took place outside the establishment and reportedly escalated into a physical assault. Investigators allege that the two men struck the worker in the face and legs, leaving him seriously injured.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged debt have not been independently established in the reporting reviewed.

Ciutadella Local Police received an alert shortly before 18:30 on Saturday about an assault taking place outside the venue. Officers responded to the scene, where they found the waiter with serious injuries. A unit of the National Police also attended.

Following the initial investigation and the identification of the two men, officers arrested them in connection with the incident.

Injured Waiter Taken to Hospital

Emergency medical personnel from the Balearic emergency service SAMU 061 treated the injured man at the scene.

He was subsequently taken urgently to Hospital Juaneda Ciutadella for further treatment. According to the published reports, he suffered a fracture of the tibia and fibula, multiple facial fractures and bleeding wounds, including injuries to one ear that required stitches.

The reports stated that the worker remained in hospital following the incident and that several surgical procedures were planned once the swelling had subsided sufficiently.

His subsequent medical condition has not been independently confirmed in the sources reviewed.

Suspects Released Pending Legal Proceedings

Following their arrests, the two British men were taken to police facilities and later transferred to the National Police station after the initial proceedings.

Both appeared before a judge and were subsequently released with charges pending, according to the reports. Their passports were withdrawn as part of the measures imposed, meaning they were unable to return to the United Kingdom at the time of publication.

Their release does not amount to an acquittal, nor does it establish guilt. The allegations remain subject to the relevant legal proceedings.

The case concerns an alleged violent assault that left a local hospitality worker with serious injuries. The precise circumstances of the dispute and the responsibility of each individual must be determined through the judicial process.
