Camí des Fil Renovation Begins in Sant Carles With €817,707 Investment

2 October 2026

Work has begun on the comprehensive renovation of the Camí des Fil in Sant Carles de Peralta, with the project set to improve approximately 6.4 kilometres of one of the municipality’s important rural road connections.

The Santa Eulària des Riu Town Hall began the works this week, with the first operations focused on cleaning and clearing the roadside drainage ditches.

The project has been awarded to Hermanos Parrot S.A. for €817,707.78 including VAT, following a tender process in which three companies submitted offers. The works are being financed entirely with municipal funds and have an execution period of two months from the start of construction.

A Key Route in the Northeast of Ibiza

The Camí des Fil forms part of Santa Eulària’s municipal road network and runs through the parish of Sant Carles de Peralta.

The road is approximately six metres wide on average, with one lane in each direction, and provides an important connection towards areas including es Figueral, Cala Boix and es Pou des Lleó.

It also experiences particularly high levels of traffic during the summer months. The road is frequently used by people travelling from the north of the island towards the Las Dalias market, adding to traffic levels during busy periods.

Why the Road Is Being Renovated

The existing road surface has deteriorated in several areas as a result of continued use, increased traffic and the presence of a desalinated-water pipeline serving the direction of es Figueral.

The council has identified potholes, wheel ruts and cracks, together with sections where the surface layer no longer provides the required conditions for durability and safe circulation.

The renovation is therefore designed to address the most deteriorated sections rather than simply applying a new surface across the road without additional repairs.

New Asphalt and Drainage Improvements

The project includes the treatment of the most damaged areas, deeper repairs to potholes and milling of affected sections before a new asphalt layer is applied.

The roadside drainage system will also be improved.

This includes cleaning and adapting the ditches alongside the road, as well as work on transverse drainage structures designed to improve the conservation of the route and the evacuation of rainwater.

These measures are intended to address both the condition of the road surface and the infrastructure that helps protect it from water-related deterioration.

Repairs to Traditional Stone Walls

The works also include the repair, reconstruction or local replacement of dry-stone walls that may be affected during construction.

Where repairs are required, limestone with tones similar to the existing stone will be used.

The aim is to maintain the traditional appearance of the stone boundaries that form part of the rural landscape around Sant Carles while carrying out the necessary road improvements.

Road Markings and Roadside Maintenance

Once the resurfacing work has been completed, the horizontal road markings affected by the works will be replaced using reflective paint.

The existing vertical signage will remain in place.

The project will also include bringing service covers and other infrastructure located on the road surface up to the correct level, together with cleaning the margins alongside the road.

Traffic Restrictions During the Works

Some temporary traffic restrictions will be required as the project progresses.

In particular, sections of the Camí des Fil will need to be closed or affected by traffic restrictions during certain phases of the asphalt work to allow the resurfacing to be carried out efficiently.

Santa Eulària Town Hall has said that these traffic impacts will be communicated to residents and other road users in advance, allowing people to plan their journeys and helping to minimise disruption.

The Contract Was Awarded Below the Original Tender Budget

The final contract value is lower than the amount originally allocated for the tender.

The project was initially put out to tender with a budget of €1,040,239.66 including VAT. Following the competitive process, Hermanos Parrot S.A. was awarded the contract for €817,707.78 including VAT.

The difference means the municipality is carrying out the planned renovation at a lower contract value than the original tender budget.

A Two-Month Construction Period

The council expects the works to take two months from the beginning of construction.

The initial work now underway focuses on clearing and preparing the roadside drainage areas before the main stages of road rehabilitation and resurfacing take place.

Once completed, the project will provide a renewed road surface along approximately 6.4 kilometres of the Camí des Fil, alongside improvements to drainage, road markings, roadside areas and affected traditional stone walls.

Improving an Important Sant Carles Connection

The renovation is intended to improve the conservation, safety and circulation conditions of the Camí des Fil while maintaining the character of the rural landscape around Sant Carles.

For residents and visitors travelling towards es Figueral, Cala Boix and es Pou des Lleó, as well as those using the route to reach Las Dalias, the work represents a substantial upgrade to an important local connection.

Traffic restrictions will be part of the construction process, but once the project is completed, the municipality expects the renovated route to provide improved conditions for everyday circulation and long-term maintenance.
