The Socialist Federation of Ibiza has officially selected four of its leading candidates for the 2027 local and island elections, presenting a new political team with the stated aim of returning the PSOE to government in the island's main institutions.

Àlex Pitaluga has been confirmed as the Socialist candidate for the presidency of the Consell de Ibiza, while Elena López Bonet, Víctor Torres and Vicent Roselló will lead the party's lists in Ibiza Town, Santa Eulària des Riu and Sant Josep de sa Talaia respectively.

The announcement marks an important step in the PSOE's preparations for the 2027 elections and comes just days after several of the candidates had individually announced their intention to compete in the party's primary process.

PSOE presents its Ibiza 2027 team

The four candidates were officially proclaimed by the Federación Socialista de Ibiza as part of its preparations for the next elections.

Álex Pitaluga will seek the presidency of the Consell de Ibiza. Elena López Bonet will be the Socialist candidate for mayor of Ibiza Town, Víctor Torres will head the municipal list in Santa Eulària des Riu and Vicent Roselló will stand in Sant Josep de sa Talaia.

The party says the objective is to build a strong alternative capable of regaining control of the island's principal institutions in 2027.

The selection process is not yet complete, however. The PSOE still has to determine its leading candidates in Sant Antoni de Portmany and Sant Joan de Labritja.

Vicent Roselló says Ibiza is demanding change

The message delivered by Vicent Roselló during the presentation was strongly focused on political change.

The PSOE's Ibiza secretary general and newly confirmed Sant Josep candidate said the party believes there is a widespread demand among residents for a major change in the island's current political direction.

Roselló questioned whether people in Ibiza are living better today than they were several years ago and answered that, in his view, they are not.

He argued that the priority should be ensuring that residents can continue working and building a future on the island rather than being forced away by rising socioeconomic pressures.

The statement is a political assessment from the PSOE rather than an independently measured finding about public opinion.

Housing will be a central campaign issue

Access to housing is expected to be one of the major themes of the Socialists' 2027 campaign.

Roselló said housing would be a particular priority, alongside territorial and tourism policy and the strengthening of public services.

The party argues that the cost and availability of housing are increasingly making it difficult for residents, particularly younger people, to remain on Ibiza.

The issue has already been central to the campaign of Àlex Pitaluga, who announced his candidacy for the Consell presidency only days before the formal proclamation.

Pitaluga has identified housing, tourism pressure and the island's broader development model among his main political concerns.

Pitaluga wants a change in Ibiza's development model

Pitaluga, currently a member of the Balearic Parliament, has presented his candidacy around the idea of changing the direction of Ibiza's development.

He has argued for a review of the island's growth model and said tourism should be managed in a way that benefits the resident population while helping finance public services and housing solutions.

His stated priorities include housing, healthcare, education and protecting Ibiza's territory, landscape and cultural heritage.

Pitaluga will now become the PSOE's official candidate for the presidency of the Consell in the 2027 elections.

Elena López Bonet to lead the Ibiza Town campaign

Elena López Bonet will head the Socialist ticket in Ibiza Town.

López Bonet is currently a prominent figure in the PSOE's opposition work at island level and has previously criticised the current government over issues including education, tourism and public services.

Her candidacy gives the Socialists an experienced institutional figure as they seek to compete for control of the capital.

The Ibiza Town campaign is expected to focus heavily on the city's housing situation, public services and urban management, although the full Socialist electoral programme has not yet been presented.

Víctor Torres confirmed in Santa Eulària

Víctor Torres will lead the PSOE's municipal campaign in Santa Eulària des Riu.

Torres has been a member of the Consell de Ibiza since 2019 and currently serves as deputy spokesperson for the Socialist group.

When announcing his candidacy, he said his objective was to put municipal management directly at the service of local families.

He has particularly highlighted housing, equality of opportunity and the desire to ensure that people can continue living in Santa Eulària rather than being priced out.

Vicent Roselló takes aim at Sant Josep

The fourth candidate is Vicent Roselló himself.

Born in Sant Agustí des Vedrà in 1978, Roselló is a councillor in the Sant Josep de sa Talaia municipal Socialist group and has served as secretary general of the Federation Socialist of Ibiza.

When announcing his candidacy earlier this month, he said he believed Sant Josep needed a new political phase based on greater rigour, transparency and honesty.

His official selection now places him at the head of the PSOE's campaign to challenge for the mayoralty in 2027.

The four candidates have a common message

Although the four candidates will be campaigning for different institutions, the presentation highlighted several issues shared across the Socialist strategy.

Housing is the most prominent.

The PSOE also intends to make the regulation of Ibiza's territorial and tourism model a central part of its programme, together with stronger public services.

The party argues that current economic and tourism pressures risk making the island increasingly difficult for its own residents to live in.

Its proposed response is to use public policy to reduce those pressures while maintaining economic activity.

PSOE aims to recover Ibiza's institutions

The 2027 elections are already becoming an important political milestone on the island.

The Socialists currently occupy opposition positions in several of the institutions they hope to recover.

The party has been preparing its organisation and candidates well ahead of the vote, with its leadership repeatedly identifying the 2027 election as a major objective.

The formal proclamation of Pitaluga, López Bonet, Torres and Roselló represents a significant step in that process.

The primaries are still continuing

The PSOE's candidate selection process is not finished.

The party has confirmed that its internal primary process will continue in the coming weeks to determine its candidates in Sant Antoni de Portmany and Sant Joan de Labritja.

The final municipal team will therefore only become clear once those processes have concluded.

That leaves two important municipalities still to be settled as the Socialists build their full electoral slate for 2027.

A campaign increasingly focused on Ibiza's future

The early positioning from the PSOE shows that the 2027 campaign is likely to revolve around some of Ibiza's most persistent political debates.

Housing affordability, tourism pressure, territorial planning and the quality of public services are all issues that affect residents directly and have been increasingly prominent in island politics.

The Socialists are presenting themselves as the party prepared to change the current direction.

Whether that message reflects a broad public consensus will ultimately be decided by voters at the 2027 elections.

For now, what is confirmed is that the PSOE has formally assembled four of its most important candidates and begun the next stage of its campaign to regain political ground across Ibiza.
