New Direct Flight Between Castellón and Ibiza Coming in 2027

September 08, 2026

Ibiza is set to gain a new direct air connection with Castellón Airport in summer 2027, with Air Nostrum announcing plans to operate the route during the busiest part of August.

The new service will run for four weeks in August 2027, with one flight per week, according to the announcement made by the Valencian regional government and airport operator Aerocas.

The announcement comes as Castellón Airport reports its strongest monthly passenger figures since opening.

A New Route to Ibiza

The new Castellón-Ibiza connection will be operated by Air Nostrum and is planned specifically for the peak summer period.

The service will operate during the four weeks of August, with a weekly frequency.

That means the new route will initially provide a limited seasonal connection rather than a daily or year-round service.

For travellers in the Castellón area, however, it will provide a new direct option for reaching Ibiza during one of the island's busiest months.

Castellón Airport Hits a New Record

The Ibiza announcement coincides with a record month for Castellón Airport.

The airport handled 52,337 passengers in August 2026, making it the first time in its history that more than 50,000 passengers have passed through the airport in a single month.

August's figure was 16.5% higher than the same month in 2025.

The airport also recorded 1,816 aircraft movements during August, an increase of 66.6% year-on-year.

Between January and August 2026, Castellón Airport handled 249,593 passengers, representing a 12.6% increase compared with the same period last year.

More Flights to the Balearic Islands

The new Ibiza route is part of a wider expansion of Castellón Airport's connections with the Balearic Islands.

The existing Castellón-Palma de Mallorca service will also be expanded in summer 2027.

The number of frequencies will increase from 14 to 26, equivalent to 52 flights in both directions, with the route operating for 13 weeks from around mid-June until early September.

The additional Ibiza connection will therefore sit alongside an expanded Mallorca service as Castellón increases its links with the Balearics.

Why August?

The decision to operate the Ibiza service only during August reflects the strong seasonal demand for travel between mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands.

August is traditionally one of Ibiza's busiest months, attracting international and domestic visitors for its beaches, restaurants, nightlife and summer events.

For passengers based around Castellón, the new route could make an Ibiza trip more convenient by avoiding a journey to another airport for a direct connection.

A Growing Castellón Airport

The new route comes during a period of growth for Castellón Airport.

The airport recorded 10,351 aircraft movements between January and August 2026, a 20% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

Airport director Raquel París said the figures put the airport on course to surpass its 2025 passenger total and potentially establish a new annual record.

The airport handled 318,301 passengers during 2025, according to local reporting.

What the New Route Means for Ibiza

For Ibiza, the new service represents another direct connection with mainland Spain.

The route is relatively limited in frequency, with just one weekly flight for four weeks, so it is unlikely to transform Ibiza's overall air connectivity.

However, it could provide a useful seasonal option for travellers in the Castellón area, particularly during the peak summer period.

It also adds another connection to Ibiza's growing network of seasonal routes serving different parts of Spain and Europe.

The Route Is Planned for 2027

For now, the Castellón-Ibiza service remains a planned summer 2027 route.

Air Nostrum is expected to operate the connection during four weeks in August, with one weekly frequency.

Further details such as the exact operating dates and flight times have not been provided in the announcements currently available.

The announcement nevertheless gives travellers in the Castellón area another potential option for reaching Ibiza next summer.

Castellón Airport is continuing to expand, and from August 2027, that growth will include a new direct link to Ibiza.
