Ibiza was one of the most sought-after island destinations in Spain for ferry travel during summer 2026, ranking third among Spanish island destinations chosen by travellers from the domestic market, according to a new analysis by ferry booking platform Ferryhopper.

The data, based on bookings made between June and August 2026, place Ibiza behind Mallorca and Menorca in the ranking of the most requested Spanish island destinations among Spanish travellers.

For Ibiza, the result underlines the importance of maritime travel to the island during the busiest part of the year and highlights the continued strength of the Balearic Islands as Spain's leading ferry destinations.

Ibiza ranks third behind Mallorca and Menorca

According to Ferryhopper's analysis, Mallorca was the most popular Spanish island destination for ferry travel among Spanish customers during the summer.

Menorca came second, followed by Ibiza in third place. The remaining destinations in the national top five were Formentera and Fuerteventura.

The ranking is notable for the dominance of the Balearic Islands. Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera occupy four of the five leading positions, with Fuerteventura the only Canary Island represented in the top five.

For Ibiza, the third-place position places the island ahead of Formentera and the other Spanish island destinations included in Ferryhopper's analysis.

The data comes from summer 2026 bookings

The figures do not represent total ferry passengers arriving in Ibiza or an official ranking of all ferry traffic through Spanish ports.

Instead, Ferryhopper analysed reservations made through its booking platform during the period from June through August 2026.

That distinction is important. The results indicate which Spanish island destinations were most requested by Spanish Ferryhopper users, rather than providing a complete measure of every passenger travelling by sea to Ibiza during the summer.

Within that dataset, Ibiza nevertheless emerged as one of the country's leading island choices.

Four Balearic Islands feature in the top five

The strength of the Balearic Islands is one of the clearest findings in the data.

Mallorca took first place, Menorca second, Ibiza third and Formentera fourth. Fuerteventura followed in fifth.

That means four of the five most requested Spanish island destinations in Ferryhopper's summer analysis were in the Balearics.

The result reflects the extensive ferry network connecting the archipelago both with mainland Spain and with other islands. Ferryhopper's 2026 route information shows regular ferry connections between the Balearic Islands, including routes linking Ibiza with Mallorca and Formentera.

Ibiza remains an important ferry destination

Ferry travel is particularly important for Ibiza because the island is connected by sea to both mainland Spain and neighbouring Balearic destinations.

Ferryhopper currently lists Ibiza-Mallorca services, with crossings operating throughout the year and additional seasonal frequency. The company says the quickest Ibiza-Mallorca journeys can take around 2 hours and 15 minutes, depending on the service.

Ibiza is also an important link for travellers continuing on to Formentera. The two islands are connected by frequent short-distance ferry services, making Ibiza a central point in the movement of visitors around the Pityusic Islands.

Ferryhopper's 2026 information describes Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera as being connected by regular ferry routes, supporting the possibility of island-hopping within the Balearic archipelago.

Last-minute ferry bookings remain popular

The Ferryhopper analysis also reveals a strong preference for booking ferries close to the date of departure.

Around 45% of ferry tickets analysed, including both domestic and international journeys, were booked during the seven days before departure.

That means almost half of the bookings were made within just one week of travel.

The figure points to a significant last-minute element in ferry travel among the users included in the study, although the data also shows that another part of the market plans considerably further ahead.

Some travellers still book island trips well in advance

Despite the large share of last-minute reservations, Ferryhopper also identified a substantial group of customers who booked domestic island trips considerably earlier.

The analysis found that 26% of journeys to Spanish islands were booked at least 46 days before departure.

For international trips, the equivalent figure was 22%.

The figures suggest two distinct booking behaviours: many travellers retain flexibility and book close to departure, while a smaller but significant share plans island travel well in advance.

For popular summer destinations such as Ibiza, this combination can be particularly relevant during periods of high demand, when travellers may be deciding between different sailing times or trying to secure a particular route.

Spain's ferry market is strongly Mediterranean

The Ferryhopper analysis also looked at international ferry destinations chosen by Spanish travellers.

Greece was the leading international destination, accounting for 44% of bookings made outside Spain.

Italy followed with 36%, while Croatia represented 15%.

The figures demonstrate how heavily Spanish ferry travel is concentrated around the Mediterranean, both domestically and internationally.

Ibiza sits within this broader Mediterranean travel pattern. While the island's nightlife is one of its best-known attractions, ferry connectivity gives it another important role as a maritime destination, particularly for travellers moving between the Balearic Islands and mainland Spain.

Ferry travel gives Ibiza an alternative to flying

The ferry remains an important option for reaching Ibiza, particularly for travellers who want to take a vehicle to the island or combine multiple destinations in a single trip.

Ferryhopper's current 2026 information shows Ibiza connected by ferry with mainland ports as well as other Balearic islands. Routes from Barcelona, Valencia and other mainland locations serve the archipelago, while inter-island services connect Ibiza with places including Mallorca and Formentera.

The ability to combine passengers and vehicles on some services also makes ferry travel relevant to longer stays, road trips and island-hopping itineraries.

Ibiza's third-place ranking comes during a busy travel year

The Ferryhopper findings come as Ibiza continues to attract large numbers of visitors during the peak summer season.

Although the analysis does not measure total tourism arrivals, hotel occupancy or airport traffic, the ferry booking data provides a useful snapshot of demand from Spanish travellers using Ferryhopper's platform.

The ranking also places Ibiza in a particularly strong group of destinations. Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza occupy the first three places, while Formentera takes fourth, meaning the Balearics dominate the national ranking from first through fourth.

For Ibiza, that makes the island one of the most prominent ferry destinations in Spain's domestic travel market.

The findings offer a useful indication of how Spanish travellers are approaching ferry trips to the Balearics in 2026.

The figures are based specifically on Ferryhopper bookings rather than a comprehensive count of all ferry passengers in Spain, but they nevertheless show strong demand for Ibiza among Spanish travellers using the platform.
