Vicent Roselló Announces Candidacy for Sant Josep Mayor in 2027

The political race for Sant Josep is beginning to take shape ahead of the 2027 municipal elections, with PSOE councillor and Federación Socialista de Ibiza secretary general Vicent Roselló Ribas announcing his candidacy for the party's local primaries.

Roselló, who has served as a councillor in the Sant Josep de sa Talaia Town Hall since 2019, announced his intention to seek the PSOE nomination for mayor on September 2.

The announcement was made by the Socialist organisation in a press release.

Roselló says his decision is motivated by his commitment to the municipality and what he describes as the need for a new stage in the town's administration.

A New Candidate for 2027

Roselló is seeking to become the PSOE's candidate for mayor in the municipal elections scheduled for May 2027.

The announcement marks an early step in the political preparations for the next local election, with parties beginning to select the candidates who will lead their municipal campaigns.

Roselló has called for a new stage in Sant Josep based on what he describes as rigour, transparency, honesty and dialogue.

His campaign will focus on several areas that he says should be priorities for the municipality.

Services, Housing and Infrastructure

Among the main issues highlighted by Roselló are public services, education, family conciliation, infrastructure and access to housing.

He has also placed emphasis on protecting Sant Josep's natural environment and local identity.

The municipality covers a large and diverse area, including several villages and parishes, and Roselló says its different communities have their own needs.

Rather than treating Sant Josep as a single urban area, his proposal aims to take into account the individual characteristics of its different parts.

Focus on the Environment and Heritage

Environmental protection is another central element of Roselló's proposed programme.

He has highlighted the importance of protecting the municipality's historic heritage, beaches and rural areas.

Sant Josep contains some of Ibiza's best-known natural and coastal areas, making environmental management an important issue in local politics.

Roselló has linked this with his wider call for a municipal administration that is closer to residents and more responsive to local concerns.

Who Is Vicent Roselló?

Roselló was born in Sant Agustí des Vedrà in 1978.

His professional background is in education. He holds a degree in Humanities and has worked as an education inspector, as well as previously working as a teacher, professor and head of studies at the Sant Agustí secondary school.

He has also worked as an associate professor at the Universitat de les Illes Balears, teaching on its Master's programme in Teacher Training.

In local politics, Roselló has been a councillor in Sant Josep since 2019 and has served as deputy spokesperson for the Socialist municipal group since 2023.

His Role Within the Ibiza PSOE

Roselló is also a senior figure within the Socialist Party on the island.

He became secretary general of the Federación Socialista de Ibiza (FSE-PSOE) in 2024 and renewed the position at the party's 2025 congress.

His decision to enter the Sant Josep primaries therefore places a prominent figure in the island's Socialist organisation directly into the local electoral race.

A Focus on Dialogue

A recurring theme in Roselló's announcement is the relationship between the town hall and local residents.

His candidacy calls for greater dialogue with residents, associations and community organisations, with an emphasis on listening to local concerns.

He has also argued for a municipal administration that can respond to the different needs of Sant Josep's villages and communities.

His stated aim is to build a proposal based on consensus, proximity and participation rather than what he describes as large promises without sufficient substance.

The PSOE Primary Process

Roselló is currently presenting himself to the Socialist membership as a candidate for the party's nomination.

The PSOE's local primary process will determine who represents the party in the 2027 Sant Josep mayoral election.

Roselló has called on Socialist members in the municipality to participate in the process and support his proposal.

The announcement does not itself make him the PSOE's final candidate for mayor. That will depend on the party's internal selection process.

Looking Towards the 2027 Election

With the 2027 municipal elections still months away, the political landscape in Sant Josep is beginning to develop.

Roselló's announcement gives the local PSOE a candidate who already has several years of experience on the municipal council and currently holds a senior position within the island's Socialist organisation.

His proposed priorities include public services, housing, infrastructure, environmental protection and closer communication between the town hall and residents.

The coming months will reveal how the different political parties shape their programmes and candidates ahead of the next municipal election.

For now, Vicent Roselló has formally entered the PSOE race for Sant Josep, beginning what is likely to become an increasingly active local political campaign ahead of 2027.
