Around 150 Justice Exam Candidates in Ibiza Avoid Trip to Mallorca After First Island Examination Centre Opens

October 07, 2026

Around 150 people from Ibiza were able to sit examinations for positions in Spain's Administration of Justice on the island this month instead of travelling to Mallorca, following the establishment of an examination centre in Ibiza for the first time.

The examinations took place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with centres operating in both Ibiza and Palma. The new arrangement followed a request from UGT Justicia Illes Balears, which had argued that candidates from Ibiza were facing additional travel costs and practical difficulties when required to travel to Mallorca for examinations.

Ibiza Included as an Official Examination Centre

The Ministry of Justice formally published Ibiza as an examination location in its August 28, 2026 order, published in the Official State Gazette on September 7.

The order established the examination centres for the free-access selection processes for the bodies of Gestión Procesal y Administrativa, Tramitación Procesal y Administrativa and Auxilio Judicial. Ibiza was included alongside Palma and other examination locations across Spain.

The official documentation set the first examination for October 3 at 09:00, with a single call for candidates, apart from the different timetable applicable in the Canary Islands.

The Ibiza examination centre was located at the UIB Eivissa site in the former Comandancia building on Carrer del Calvari.

Around 150 Candidates Stayed on the Island

According to UGT Justicia Illes Balears, approximately 150 people were able to take their examinations in Ibiza rather than travelling to Palma.

The union described the arrangement as an important change for candidates from the smaller islands, who had previously had to factor in the cost and time involved in travelling to Mallorca for these types of selection processes.

The expenses can include ferry or flight tickets, local transport and, depending on the examination schedule, overnight accommodation.

For candidates with family or work responsibilities, avoiding an inter-island journey can also reduce the practical difficulties associated with attending an examination in another island.

UGT Calls for the Ibiza Centre to Continue

UGT Justicia Illes Balears has welcomed the first experience and is calling for the arrangement to continue in future examinations.

The union argues that the Ibiza centre demonstrates that examination processes can be organised closer to candidates and says that geographical proximity can help reduce the additional burden created by insularity.

UGT is also calling for similar arrangements to be considered on other islands when the number of candidates is sufficient to justify establishing a separate examination centre.

A Change for Future Justice Examinations

The inclusion of Ibiza in the official list of examination centres represents a practical change for people on the island seeking access to or advancement within Spain's judicial administration.

For the October 2026 free-access examinations, the Ministry's official documentation confirms that candidates could be assigned to an examination centre in Ibiza rather than automatically travelling to Palma.

The experience will now provide a basis for the debate over whether Ibiza should continue to have its own examination centre in future calls.

For the candidates who took their examinations on October 3, however, the immediate effect was straightforward: they were able to complete an important stage of the selection process without leaving Ibiza.
