Olive Oil Prices Fall Below €4.50 a Litre at Several Spanish Supermarkets

October 06, 2026

Olive oil prices have moved lower again at several major Spanish supermarket chains, with extra virgin olive oil available for less than €4.50 per litre at a number of retailers as of October 6, 2026.

The latest supermarket price snapshot shows one-litre bottles ranging from €4.35 at Mercadona to €4.78 at Alcampo among the own-brand references compared.

The figures are retail prices for specific products and formats. Prices can vary depending on the supermarket, location, promotions and availability.

Mercadona Drops to €4.35

Mercadona currently lists its one-litre Hacendado extra virgin olive oil at €4.35.

That represents a €0.10 reduction from the €4.45 price recorded immediately before the latest change. Current price tracking also records the move from €4.45 to €4.35 on October 6.

The three-litre Hacendado format is listed at €12.15, equivalent to €4.05 per litre.

This means the larger format offers a lower cost per litre than the one-litre bottle.

Carrefour at €4.44

Carrefour's own-brand Carrefour Extra extra virgin olive oil is currently listed at €4.44 for a one-litre bottle.

Its five-litre format is listed at €21.32, equivalent to €4.26 per litre.

Carrefour is also running separate promotions on selected olive oils, meaning shoppers may find other prices depending on the product and promotion available.

Consum and Dia at €4.45

Consum's one-litre extra virgin olive oil is listed at €4.45, while its three-litre format costs €12.80, equivalent to around €4.27 per litre.

Dia is also listing its La Almazara del Olivar extra virgin olive oil at €4.45 for one litre. Its three-litre format costs €13.05, equivalent to €4.35 per litre.

The current supermarket price comparison records both one-litre references at €4.45.

Eroski at €4.45

Eroski's own-brand extra virgin olive oil is also listed at €4.45 for a one-litre bottle.

The current Eroski online supermarket listing confirms the €4.45 price.

Alcampo at €4.78

Alcampo currently lists its own-brand one-litre extra virgin olive oil at €4.78.

The chain's online supermarket also shows selected branded products at different prices, demonstrating why it is important to compare the exact product rather than simply comparing supermarket names.

A five-litre Alcampo own-brand format is listed at €22.78, equivalent to around €4.56 per litre.

The Price Difference Is Small

Looking only at the one-litre own-brand references in this comparison, the difference between the lowest and highest prices is €0.43 per litre.

Supermarket Extra Virgin Olive Oil Format
Mercadona €4.35 1 litre
Carrefour €4.44 1 litre
Consum €4.45 1 litre
Dia €4.45 1 litre
Eroski €4.45 1 litre
Alcampo €4.78 1 litre

The cheapest one-litre option in the comparison is therefore Mercadona at €4.35, while Alcampo is the highest at €4.78.

The difference is relatively small when buying a single bottle, but it becomes more noticeable when purchasing several litres.

Larger Formats Can Be Cheaper Per Litre

The headline bottle price does not always tell the full story.

At Mercadona, for example, the €12.15 three-litre format works out at €4.05 per litre, compared with €4.35 for the one-litre bottle.

Carrefour's five-litre format at €21.32 works out at €4.26 per litre, also below its €4.44 one-litre price.

Consum's three-litre format costs €12.80, equivalent to approximately €4.27 per litre.

For regular olive oil users, comparing the price per litre can therefore be more useful than comparing the price printed on the bottle.

Olive Oil Prices Have Come Down From Their Earlier Peaks

The latest supermarket prices come after a prolonged period in which olive oil became one of the most closely watched grocery products in Spain.

Market conditions have improved significantly from the supply pressures seen during earlier poor harvests. Recent origin-market data show extra virgin olive oil trading at considerably lower levels than during the peak of the previous price crisis. Current Spanish origin prices for the week ending October 5 were around €3.24 per kilogram for extra virgin olive oil in the Jaén data published by Centroliva.

The European Commission is also continuing to publish updated monitoring of olive oil production, stocks and prices, with its latest market information updated at the end of September 2026.

Retail prices, however, do not move in exactly the same way as prices at origin. Packaging, transport, processing, retailer margins, promotions and the individual product all affect what consumers ultimately pay.

What Shoppers in Ibiza Should Know

For consumers in Ibiza, these national supermarket prices provide a useful reference, but they should not automatically be treated as the exact price available at every local branch.

Supermarket pricing can vary according to the selected store, stock, promotions and distribution costs. The figures above are therefore best understood as a snapshot of listed prices on October 6, 2026.

For shoppers comparing olive oil, the most useful figure is the price per litre, particularly when comparing one-litre bottles with three- or five-litre formats.

For now, the latest comparison shows that extra virgin olive oil can be found below €4.50 per litre at several major Spanish supermarket chains, with Mercadona offering the lowest one-litre price among the specific products reviewed.
