Two Italian men have been arrested in Ibiza on suspicion of an offence against public health after a routine traffic stop led National Police officers to discover cocaine and later additional quantities of drugs.

The incident began on the evening of Monday, September 21, when officers from the Group Operativo de Respuesta (GOR) of the Ibiza National Police station were carrying out prevention and public-security patrols.

At around 8:00pm, officers saw two men travelling on a motorcycle and stopped them after observing that the driver was talking on his phone while riding.

First search finds cocaine and cash

During the identification, officers said both men appeared nervous.

A subsequent search reportedly found a small bag containing cocaine, along with a significant amount of cash.

Police also searched the motorcycle but found no drugs or other suspicious objects inside it. At that stage, the man carrying the cocaine was proposed for an administrative sanction under Spain's Organic Law on the Protection of Citizen Security.

The two men were not initially arrested.

Police continue monitoring their movements

After the first intervention, the men left the area on the motorcycle while officers continued to observe their movements.

Police said one of the men subsequently got off the motorcycle and walked towards an area known to officers because of suspected activity connected with the sale of narcotic substances.

The second man remained beside the motorcycle, while officers maintained discreet surveillance of both men.

Second intervention leads to arrests

Around 20 minutes later, the man who had entered the area returned and headed quickly towards his companion and the motorcycle.

Officers intercepted both men just before they were about to leave again.

During a second search, police found additional quantities of narcotic substances concealed inside the trousers of one of the men.

The two men were then arrested as alleged perpetrators of an offence against public health.

No conviction has been reported

The arrests concern an alleged offence and do not establish criminal guilt.
