The Consell de Ibiza has launched the first edition of the Ibiza Craft Awards, creating a new annual recognition programme for the island's artisans and putting €23,000 in prize money behind five different categories.

The awards are designed to recognise traditional craftsmanship while also highlighting contemporary design, innovation, artisan food and fashion.

Five categories and €23,000 in prizes

The highest distinction is the Ibiza Craft Award, which carries a prize of €7,000.

Four additional categories will each receive €4,000:

• Artisan Tradition

• Artisan Design and Innovation

• Artisan Gastronomy

• Artisan Fashion

The categories reflect the different areas covered by Ibiza's certified artisan sector, from traditional skills passed between generations to contemporary creative work.

Recognising tradition and innovation

The Consell says the awards aim to recognise people who maintain and transmit traditional crafts and techniques while also supporting the development and evolution of the sector.

The Artisan Tradition category will focus on the promotion, recovery and preservation of Ibiza's traditional crafts and customs, particularly the transmission of knowledge and techniques between generations.

The Design and Innovation category will recognise predominantly handmade creations that combine technical quality with contemporary, original and innovative design.

Gastronomy and fashion included

The awards also extend beyond conventional craftwork.

The Artisan Gastronomy category will recognise Ibiza's artisan food sector, including the preservation and recovery of local recipes and the use and promotion of local and locally sourced products.

The Artisan Fashion category covers handmade work connected with clothing, dyeing, footwear and accessories, with the aim of highlighting the cultural and heritage value of Ibiza's artisan fashion.

Who can apply?

The awards are open to individuals and legal entities that hold valid artisan accreditation issued by the Consell de Ibiza and meet the requirements established in the official rules.

Applications will be submitted to the Consell's Industry Service and can also be processed through its electronic headquarters.

The pieces or products entered for the awards must be physically delivered to the Consell. Artisan food products will instead be presented when the jury is called to assess them.

When is the application period?

The application period will last 15 working days from the day after the extract of the official call is published in the Butlletí Oficial de les Illes Balears.

The Consell currently anticipates that the period will run from September 30 to October 21, 2026.

Those dates are not yet definitive and will be confirmed through the Consell's official noticeboard once the call is formally published.

How will the winners be selected?

Entries will be assessed by a technical jury made up of staff from the Consell's Industry Service together with professionals and recognised experts in areas including craftwork, gastronomy, design and commerce.

The general assessment criteria include quality of execution, technical expertise, sustainability of the production process, durability and the ability of the work to promote and increase the value of Ibiza's craft sector.

A new annual recognition for Ibiza's artisans

The Consell says it intends for the awards to continue beyond this first edition and become an established event for the island's artisan sector.

The institution also plans to hold a public ceremony to present the first Ibiza Craft Awards, although the date and location have not yet been announced.

With five categories covering traditional crafts, contemporary design, gastronomy and fashion, the new awards are intended to give greater visibility to the people and businesses keeping Ibiza's artisan activity alive while allowing the sector to continue developing.
