Taxi fares in Ibiza are set to increase by almost 9% following a tariff review approved by the Consell d'Eivissa, with the new prices coming after a delay that has kept the sector waiting through much of the 2026 tourist season.

The revision was initially approved by the island council in May following a request from the island's taxi federation. The sector had argued that rising operating costs, including vehicles, insurance and maintenance, had made an update necessary after several years without a general fare increase.

How much will Ibiza taxis cost?

Under the approved tariff proposal, several of the main taxi charges will increase.

The daytime price per kilometre will rise from €1.21 to €1.32, while the night-time rate will increase from €1.47 to €1.60.

The initial flag-fall will increase from €4 to €4.30.

The supplement for journeys involving the port or airport will rise from €2 to €2.15.

Taken together, the changes represent an overall increase of close to 9%, although the percentage increase on an individual journey will depend on the distance, time and applicable supplements.

Why are fares increasing?

The taxi sector requested the revision after pointing to increases in its operating costs.

When the proposal was approved initially in May, the island's taxi federation had presented an economic study documenting higher expenses. Vehicle prices were reported to have increased by between 12% and 15%, with similar increases affecting insurance and vehicle maintenance.

The proposed tariff increase was lower than those reported cost increases.

Consell representatives said the update was intended to help maintain the viability of the taxi service, while the taxi sector supported the revision.

The increase was delayed

The new fares were originally expected to come into force during the 2026 summer season.

However, the approval process took longer than anticipated. In September, taxi representatives were publicly expressing frustration that the revised fares had still not been implemented despite the initial approval months earlier.

The proposal had to go through the relevant administrative process, including consideration by the Govern Balear's Commission of Prices and the final approval procedure.

By September 23, the Consell was preparing to give the tariff revision definitive approval, after determining that the lack of a response from the Commission of Prices did not prevent the process from continuing.

Taxi sector had expected the change earlier

The delay means taxi drivers did not receive the revised fares during the main part of the 2026 high season, despite the sector having expected the increase to be introduced during the summer.

The Federation Insular del Taxi had criticised the delay, arguing that the sector was facing higher operating costs while continuing to work under the previous tariff structure.

What passengers should expect

For passengers, the most visible changes will be the higher starting fare, increased per-kilometre charges and slightly higher airport and port supplements.

The final amount paid for a journey will continue to depend on factors including the distance travelled, the applicable daytime or night-time tariff and any relevant supplements.

The revised prices therefore do not mean that every taxi journey will cost exactly 9% more.

A change after years without a general increase

The tariff revision follows a period of several years without a general update to Ibiza's taxi prices.

The Consell initially approved the increase in May 2026 after the taxi sector requested the review, with the proposal subsequently entering the required administrative process.

The new rates are intended to bring the regulated fares closer to the operating costs reported by the sector, while the delayed implementation means the change arrives later than originally anticipated.

For passengers travelling around Ibiza, the updated tariff structure will mean higher regulated taxi charges once the new fares formally enter into force.
