Sant Josep de sa Talaia has recognised members of its Local Police for a series of notable interventions during 2026, including rescues, arrests, emergency responses and operations involving significant personal risk.

The municipality's plenary approved the awards and public commendations unanimously on Thursday, September 24. The recognitions also included other police forces, emergency services and members of the public who assisted the local police in specific operations.

Recognition for a difficult animal rescue

Among the interventions recognised was the rescue of a seriously weakened dog from the torrent of ses Boques.

Local Police officers Martínez and González Angorrilla were recognised for their involvement in the operation, which required them to reach the animal in difficult terrain.

The recognition forms part of a wider group of awards for interventions considered particularly meritorious during the year.

Assistance after the Cala de Bou crash

Several officers from the Sant Antoni Local Police were also recognised for their assistance following a serious traffic accident in Cala de Bou.

Officers González Salas, Dafauce, Flores and Puig were commended for their intervention at the scene. One person died in the crash and two others suffered serious injuries.

Sant Josep's plenary also recognised officer González Pérez for his work within the Traffic Accident Investigation Unit.

Officer recognised after preventing a fall from the E-20

Officer Navarro received recognition for an intervention in which he prevented a person from falling from the protective barrier of the E-20.

Navarro was also recognised for his involvement in a separate operation in Cala Tarida.

Together with officers Pinto and Nicolás, he participated in an operation that resulted in the arrest of two people described as alleged perpetrators of a robbery.

The operation also led to the recovery of the stolen property, including almost €500,000 in cash, according to the information presented to the plenary.

Interventions involving people in crisis

Several officers were recognised for interventions involving people experiencing serious crises and self-harming behaviour.

Officers Navarro, Ollero, Bonnin and Martínez were commended for their response to a person in a severely altered state who was displaying self-harming behaviour.

Officers González Angorrilla and Ruíz were separately recognised for an intervention at a private home in which they helped safeguard the life of a person displaying suicidal behaviour.

The awards recognise the officers' actions during these incidents without making any assumptions about the circumstances behind the individuals' behaviour.

Intervention aboard a boat

Another recognition concerned a serious incident involving gender-based violence aboard a vessel.

Officers Nicolás, Navarro, Cubel and Tébar took part in the operation alongside officer Ibáñez, who was specifically recognised for her management of the service.

The intervention was coordinated with Salvamento Marítimo.

Recognition for the DANA response

The municipality also issued a group commendation to Local Police officers who participated in the emergency deployments during the DANA episodes of 2025.

The distinction recognises the work carried out by the officers during those weather-related emergencies.

Sant Josep has previously highlighted the role of its Local Police in responding to emergencies and supporting residents during severe weather events.

Collaboration with the Guardia Civil

The plenary also recognised the collaboration between the Sant Josep Local Police and the Guardia Civil's USECICO unit.

The municipality highlighted a working relationship that has continued since 2015.

The recognition reflects cooperation between the two forces in different police operations and services.

Civilian recognition for action during a fire

The awards were not limited to police officers.

The plenary also recognised Nbaye for an altruistic intervention during a building fire.

The distinction acknowledges the assistance provided by a member of the public during an emergency involving the local community.

Cross for Police Merit

Officer Grive received the Cross for Police Merit with a green distinction for an intervention involving a person in a severely altered state who was carrying a broken glass.

The recognition forms part of the municipality's formal police decorations for notable interventions.

25 years of municipal service

The municipality also awarded a blue-distinction medal to Chief Inspector Granados and officer Moreno to mark 25 years of service with Sant Josep Town Hall.

Granados is chief inspector of the Sant Josep Local Police. The municipality has previously highlighted his role in the leadership and development of the local police service.

Other plenary decisions

The September 24 plenary session also approved several administrative measures unrelated to the police recognitions.

These included changes to the statistical sections of District 01, including the creation of a new section and the redistribution of streets.

The plenary also approved amendments concerning agreements governing municipal civil servants and employees.

Recognising public service

The awards highlight the range of situations handled by local police officers beyond routine policing, from emergency rescues and serious traffic incidents to interventions involving people in crisis and coordination with other emergency and security services.

For Sant Josep, the September 24 decisions formally recognise those interventions and the cooperation of other professionals and members of the public who contributed to the response.
