Ibiza has recognised Antonio Buendía Ávila, a senior Guardia Civil officer who has dedicated four decades to public service on the island.

The president of the Consell de Ibiza, Vicent Marí, presented Buendía with an institutional recognition on Friday, thanking him for his long-standing commitment to the island and its residents.

Four Decades Serving Ibiza

Buendía has spent 40 years working in Ibiza, building a career closely connected to the island's security and public service.

During an institutional ceremony, Marí highlighted his professional trajectory as an example of dedication, commitment and vocation for public service.

The recognition comes after a period in which Ibiza has undergone major social and economic changes, including significant population growth and the continued expansion of tourism — developments that have brought new challenges for security and coexistence on the island.

A Traditional Ibiza Tribute

As part of the ceremony, Marí presented Buendía with a ceramic piece created by Ibiza artist and ceramist Toniet.

The piece was given as a symbol of appreciation for his four decades of work and service to the island.

The event was also attended by Pablo Garriz, director general of Emergencies and Interior for the Balearic Government, and Enrique Bastida, the Consell's director for the fight against tourism-related fraud and a Guardia Civil lieutenant.

A Career Spanning a Changing Ibiza

Four decades of service means Buendía has witnessed an extraordinary transformation of Ibiza.

The island has evolved from a much smaller community into one of the world's most internationally recognised tourism destinations, with dramatic changes in population, infrastructure, nightlife and the scale of its summer visitor numbers.

The Consell's recognition therefore celebrates not only Buendía's years of service, but also the continuity of public-service work through those decades of change.

For Ibiza, the tribute highlights the people who have spent much of their professional lives working behind the scenes to support the island and its communities.
