Residents in Santa Eulària des Riu are being warned about a suspected telephone scam in which fraudsters are allegedly impersonating municipal officials in an attempt to obtain people's personal and banking information.

The town hall issued the warning on August 24, after receiving reports of suspicious calls. Officials are now collecting information about the incidents and investigating how widespread the campaign may be.

Fraudsters Are Pretending to Represent the Town Hall

According to the municipality, people behind the calls are allegedly using the identity of Santa Eulària Town Hall to make the calls appear legitimate.

The apparent objective is to persuade residents to hand over personal or banking information.

The municipality has stressed that it does not request passwords, verification codes, full card numbers or banking information by telephone.

This is particularly important because a caller claiming to represent a local authority may initially appear more trustworthy than an unknown number.

What Should You Do If You Receive a Suspicious Call?

Santa Eulària is advising residents not to provide any information if they receive a suspicious call.

The recommended steps are:

• Do not give the caller personal or banking information.
• Do not provide passwords or verification codes.
• Do not give full bank-card details.
• End the call immediately if something seems suspicious.
• Contact the Town Hall directly using its official communication channels, rather than any number provided by the caller.

The municipality is also asking people who receive suspicious calls to report them so officials can identify patterns and potentially trace the numbers being used.

Town Hall Wants Details From Residents

Anyone who has received one of these calls is being asked to provide, where possible:

• The telephone number used by the caller
• The date and approximate time of the call
• A brief description of what the caller said
• Screenshots or other available evidence

The information will help the municipality centralise reports and establish how the suspected fraud works and how extensive the campaign may be.

What If You Already Gave Them Your Bank Details?

The warning is particularly important for anyone who may already have shared sensitive financial information.

The Town Hall advises victims to contact their bank immediately and take steps to protect their accounts or cards.

They should also report the incident to the Guardia Civil or Policía Nacional.

The sooner the bank is informed, the sooner it can assess whether cards or accounts need to be blocked or additional security measures put in place.

The suspected scam comes during the height of Ibiza's summer season, when the island is dealing with large numbers of residents, seasonal workers and visitors.

While the municipality has not yet confirmed the full scale or origin of the campaign, it is urging people to remain cautious and remember a simple rule:

A genuine call from Santa Eulària Town Hall should never require you to disclose passwords, verification codes or complete banking information over the phone.

Anyone who receives an unexpected call asking for this type of information should hang up and contact the institution independently through an official channel.
