Car and School Bus Crash Closes Road Between Es Cubells and Sant Josep for More Than Three and a Half Hours

October 15, 2026

A collision between a passenger car and a school-transport bus forced the closure of the EI-703 road between Es Cubells and Sant Josep de sa Talaia for more than three and a half hours on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.

The crash occurred at approximately 14:30 near kilometre 3 of the road. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, with the car reportedly written off and the bus suffering major damage to its front section.

Despite the force of the impact, no injuries were reported. The bus had already completed its school transport route and was carrying only the driver and a school monitor, according to information provided by its operator, Alsa.

How Did the Collision Happen?

According to Alsa’s account to local media, the car was travelling in the opposite direction when it skidded on a bend and collided with the bus.

The car struck the bus around its front-left axle, causing extensive damage to the bus’s front and left side. The passenger car was left in a condition described as a total loss.

The precise cause of the collision has not been independently established in the reporting reviewed. The explanation about the car skidding comes from the bus operator, and the available information does not establish a formal finding of fault.

School Bus Was Not Carrying Pupils

The bus had just completed a school transport route in the Es Cubells area. No pupils were on board when the crash occurred.

Only the driver and a school monitor remained in the vehicle. Both were reported to be unharmed, and no injuries were reported among the occupants of the car in the initial accounts.

The fact that the school route had already finished meant that children were not involved in the collision.

More Than Three and a Half Hours of Road Closures

The impact left both vehicles obstructing the carriageway, preventing traffic from passing along the affected section of the EI-703.

Local Police from Sant Josep and Guardia Civil traffic officers attended the scene, alongside Consell road-maintenance personnel who helped clear the road.

Removing the damaged bus required a recovery truck from Grúas Ibiza. The operation included moving the vehicles and cleaning the roadway before traffic could resume.

The road remained closed for more than three and a half hours, causing disruption for drivers travelling between Es Cubells and Sant Josep de sa Talaia.

Significant Damage but No Reported Injuries

The collision caused extensive material damage to both vehicles. The car was reportedly written off, while the bus suffered particularly serious damage around the front and left side, including the front-left axle.

The absence of reported injuries was a positive outcome given the severity of the impact and the damage visible on the vehicles.

The incident highlights the disruption that a collision can cause on a road connecting local communities, particularly when damaged vehicles block the full width of the carriageway and require specialist recovery.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain subject to the relevant traffic procedures, and the available reporting does not establish an official determination of responsibility.
