Ibiza Teacher Accused of Offering Passing Grades for Sex Faces 17 Years in Prison as Trial Is Suspended

October 15, 2026

A former Catalan teacher at a secondary school in Santa Eulària is facing a prosecution request for 17 years and three months in prison over alleged sexual propositions, intimate photographs and threats involving five female students who were minors during the 2020–2021 school year.

The trial, scheduled to begin at the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, was suspended before proceedings began. The court accepted a request from the prosecution to have a minor witness’s testimony recorded in advance, a measure intended to avoid requiring young witnesses to recount their experiences repeatedly. The defence opposed the request.

No new trial date was included in the reports reviewed.

The allegations concern the teacher’s conduct towards five students while he was teaching Catalan at a school in Ibiza. The prosecution alleges that he used his position to initiate sexual conversations and linked students’ academic results to their responses to his advances.

The accused has not been convicted. The court proceedings will determine whether the allegations can be established.

Allegations of Grades Offered in Exchange for Sexual Favour

According to the prosecution’s account, the alleged incidents took place during the 2020–2021 academic year.

One student, who was 16 at the time, was allegedly taken out of class by the teacher for conversations that turned towards sexual matters. The prosecution says he offered to take her to a property he owned in Mallorca and told her that she could pass the subject without studying if she agreed to his requests.

Two other students, both aged 15 at the time, allegedly experienced a similar pattern. The teacher is accused of taking them aside to discuss sexual matters, proposing encounters at his property in Mallorca and suggesting they could pass without completing all the required examinations.

The prosecution argues that the teacher linked the students’ responses to his sexual propositions with the grades he would award them.

These allegations remain subject to judicial examination and have not been established by a final court judgment.

Intimate Photographs and Alleged Threats

The prosecution’s case also includes allegations involving private photographs and online communications.

In the case of the student who was 16, the teacher allegedly exchanged intimate photographs with her through a social media platform. Prosecutors say he later threatened to distribute her images, an allegation that forms part of the charge of coercion.

Two other students, aged 14 and 15, were allegedly contacted through social media. The prosecution says the teacher asked them to send sexual images and sent images of himself in return.

The case includes allegations involving minors of different ages, and the prosecution has brought several separate charges relating to the alleged conduct towards the five students.

Charges and Potential Penalties

The prosecution accuses the teacher of:

  • Three offences involving the corruption of minors.

  • Three offences of exhibitionism.

  • Two offences of sexual enticement.

  • One offence of coercion.

The prosecution is seeking a total prison sentence of 17 years and three months. It is also requesting a fine of €5,400 and €32,000 in total compensation for the five students for the alleged moral harm.

These figures represent the penalties and compensation sought by the prosecution. They are not a sentence or compensation award imposed by the court.

Why the Trial Was Suspended

The hearing was due to begin at the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands in Palma on Wednesday, 14 October.

Before proceedings could start, the prosecutor requested that a minor witness’s statement be taken as pre-constituted evidence. This procedure allows testimony to be recorded in advance and can reduce the need for a young witness to repeat their account during later stages of a case.

The defence opposed the request. After considering the issue, the court accepted the prosecution’s application and suspended the trial.

The reports reviewed did not specify when the hearing will be rescheduled.

A Case Dating Back to the 2020–2021 School Year

The alleged incidents date back several years, to the period when the accused was teaching Catalan at a secondary school in Ibiza.

The prosecution’s account describes a pattern of alleged conduct involving classroom interactions, private conversations and contact through social media. The charges relate to five students who were minors at the time.

The case must now proceed through the judicial process, including the rescheduled trial, before a court can determine whether the allegations have been proven and what legal consequences, if any, should follow.

For now, the 17-year-and-three-month prison term remains the prosecution’s request, and the accused retains the presumption of innocence.
