Rain Turns Okuda's Colourful Walkway in Sant Antoni Into an Improvised Slide

06 de October de 2026

Heavy rain in Sant Antoni produced an unusual scene over the weekend when a visitor was filmed sliding down the wet surface of Endless Rainbow Walk, the colourful public artwork created by Okuda San Miguel in the town's West End.

A video shared on Instagram shows a young man using the water accumulated on the sloping surface to slide down the artwork while people nearby react with laughter and surprise.

The incident took place during a period of unsettled weather that brought heavy rain and thunderstorms to Ibiza at the beginning of October.

A Very Different Use of the Artwork

Endless Rainbow Walk was not created as a slide.

The intervention is a permanent public artwork designed to transform part of Carrer Santa Agnès into a colourful pedestrian space. It was officially inaugurated in May 2025 as part of Sant Antoni's wider efforts to revitalise the West End and encourage greater daytime activity.

The project extends for around 160 metres, covering more than 1,000 square metres of pavement with Okuda's characteristic geometric forms, colourful patterns and symbolic elements.

When dry, the artwork is intended to be experienced on foot as part of the public space and Sant Antoni's Art Route.

When rain covers the sloping surface, however, some visitors have found a very different way to interact with it.

Not the First Rain-Related Slide in the West End

The October incident follows another unusual scene filmed in the same area in September.

During heavy rainfall on September 17, visitors were recorded using a different sloping section of the West End as an improvised waterslide, with some of them using inflatable floats to travel downhill.

The latest video is different because the visitor slides directly over the colourful surface of Okuda's artwork.

Endless Rainbow Walk

Endless Rainbow Walk is one of the most prominent additions to Sant Antoni's public art landscape.

The project was promoted by Sant Antoni Town Council and forms part of the municipality's Art Route, which includes more than 40 urban artworks around the town.

The intervention uses a combination of pavement painting and textile architectural elements, incorporating Okuda's distinctive visual language and his well-known Estrella del Kaos. Official information describes the work as a project centred on diversity, creativity and the transformation of public space.

The project had a total contracted value of €371,014.58, with European funding contributing €220,000. Municipal documentation confirms the final works were formally completed in July 2025.

An Unexpected Moment During the Rain

The video does not indicate that the artwork itself has changed or that it has been officially designated for recreational use.

Instead, it captures one visitor taking advantage of the unusual conditions created by heavy rain on the sloping surface.

For those passing through the West End during wet weather, the scene may have looked more like a temporary waterslide than a piece of urban art.

Once the rain stops and the surface dries, however, Endless Rainbow Walk returns to its intended role as a colourful pedestrian artwork and one of the most distinctive features of Sant Antoni's renovated West End.
