Yellow Weather Alert for Rain and Thunderstorms in Ibiza and Formentera on Wednesday, October 7

07 de October de 2026

Ibiza and Formentera are under yellow weather warnings this Wednesday for rain and thunderstorms, with the storms potentially bringing hail and wind gusts of up to 90 km/h.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated two yellow-level warnings covering Ibiza and Formentera as an unsettled autumn weather system affects the islands.

The warnings began at 04:00 on Wednesday, October 7, and are currently scheduled to remain in place until 15:59.

Rainfall of up to 20 mm in one hour

The yellow warning for rain covers the possibility of accumulating 20 litres per square metre in one hour.

AEMET places the probability of the warned rainfall at between 40% and 70% and classifies the associated hazard as low.

Thunderstorms are also covered by a separate yellow warning for the same period.

According to AEMET, the storms may be accompanied by wind gusts of between 70 and 90 km/h, as well as hail.

Rain and storms already affecting the islands

The weather episode was already producing rain and thunderstorms during the early hours of Wednesday.

AEMET observations from Ibiza Airport showed 3.3 mm of accumulated rainfall by 13:50, while the station recorded a maximum wind gust of 63 km/h at 06:00.

The official forecast for Ibiza calls for cloudy or overcast skies with showers and thunderstorms that may be locally strong, before conditions gradually improve during the afternoon.

Formentera is also forecast to experience rain and thunderstorms during the morning, with conditions becoming more stable later in the day.

Conditions expected to improve

The current warnings are scheduled to end at 15:59 on Wednesday, provided there are no changes to the meteorological situation.

AEMET's current forecast shows a considerably calmer picture for Thursday, with no yellow weather warning currently in place for Ibiza and Formentera.

Residents, visitors and anyone travelling between the islands should nevertheless remain alert to updated forecasts while the warnings remain active, particularly during periods of heavy rain or thunderstorms.

The combination of intense rainfall, thunderstorms, possible hail and locally strong wind gusts can create difficult conditions on roads and exposed coastal areas, even though the official warning level remains yellow.
