Ibiza PSOE Asks Triguero to Explain Timeline Behind Ana Ferrer Resignation

06 de October de 2026

The Ibiza PSOE has asked Mayor Rafa Triguero to explain when he became aware of the circumstances surrounding former PP councillor Ana Ferrer Prohías and why her resignation was not announced sooner.

The request follows Ferrer’s decision to leave her seat on Ibiza Town Council after her husband, José Luis Cortés Cortés, was detained in a major police operation investigating an alleged organisation involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.

The PSOE is focusing its questions on the period between Triguero becoming aware of the situation and the public announcement of Ferrer’s resignation.

PSOE Wants a Detailed Timeline

The Socialist group says the explanations given so far do not provide enough detail about the sequence of events.

According to the PP, Ferrer told Triguero during the previous week that she intended to leave the council, first verbally and then in writing. Triguero subsequently confirmed that he had spoken with Ferrer and that they agreed on her resignation.

The PSOE is now asking the mayor to clarify exactly when he learned about the detention of Ferrer’s husband, what information he had at the time and what steps he took afterwards.

The party also questions why the resignation was not announced immediately if the decision had already been discussed.

The “Ten Days” Question

The PSOE has specifically questioned what happened during what it describes as a ten-day period between the mayor becoming aware of Ferrer’s intention to resign and the public announcement.

However, that figure should be understood as the PSOE’s political framing rather than an independently established chronology.

Other reporting places Cortés' detention on September 21, while the police operation was made public on October 2. The PP announced Ferrer’s resignation on the evening of October 4, with reports about it published on October 5.

The exact date on which Triguero first became aware of the detention, and the precise sequence of his conversations with Ferrer, has not been publicly established in the information reviewed.

What the PP and Triguero Have Said

The PP has said Ferrer decided to resign for personal and family reasons and that she communicated her intention to Triguero during the previous week.

The party also said that the mayor conveyed to Ferrer that formalising her resignation was advisable under the circumstances, a view that she shared.

Triguero has described the matter as personal and family-related and has called for prudence while the judicial investigation continues.

He said he spoke with Ferrer during the previous week and that she shared part of the information she knew at that point. He also said that the resignation was agreed during that conversation and that the formal written resignation had subsequently been submitted.

The mayor has also stressed that Ferrer and her family are being affected by the situation and urged people to wait for the judicial process to establish the facts.

Ferrer Is Not Identified as a Suspect

An important distinction remains unchanged: there is no information in the sources reviewed indicating that Ana Ferrer is being investigated in the case involving her husband.

Her husband is one of four people detained in Ibiza as part of the wider operation, which involved 27 arrests and investigated an alleged organisation linked to cocaine trafficking and the laundering of proceeds through luxury real estate in Ibiza, Marbella and Madrid.

Ferrer’s resignation therefore concerns her political position and the circumstances affecting her family. It should not be presented as a consequence of her own involvement in the investigation.

PSOE Calls for Political Explanations

The PSOE argues that the mayor should explain whether he would have handled the situation in the same way if details of the operation had not become public.

The Socialists are also questioning whether the municipality should have provided information earlier and are calling for greater transparency regarding the actions taken by the mayor.

These are political criticisms from the opposition and are not findings that Triguero breached any legal obligation.

Resignation Still Requires Formal Procedure

Although Ferrer has submitted her resignation, the process is not simply completed by the public announcement.

Triguero has said the resignation must go through the corresponding municipal procedure, including consideration by the full council. A replacement will then be determined through the applicable electoral procedure.

For now, the political dispute centres on the chronology: when the mayor knew about the situation, when Ferrer decided to resign, when the written resignation was submitted and why the announcement was made when it was.

The PSOE is asking Triguero to provide those answers publicly. The mayor has so far maintained that the matter is personal and family-related and has called for prudence while the judicial investigation continues.
