DANA Adam in Ibiza: Five Areas of Sant Josep Accounted for 60% of Emergency Incidents

October 21, 2026

Sant Jordi, Ibiza Airport, Playa d'en Bossa, ses Salines and sa Carroca accounted for 60% of emergency interventions recorded in Sant Josep de sa Talaia during Storm DANA Adam, according to the municipality's final report. The town hall registered 50 emergency operations between Sunday, 18 October, and Tuesday, 20 October, as heavy rainfall caused flooding, drainage problems and disruption to roads across the municipality.

The southeastern area of Sant Josep recorded 30 of the 50 interventions. The remaining 20 took place in other parts of the municipality, including incidents involving fallen trees, obstacles on roads, electrical cabling and damage along the coastline.

Mayor Vicent Roig Tur said no personal injuries had been reported in Sant Josep and highlighted the work of emergency services and municipal teams during the storm.

Sant Jordi, the Airport and Playa d'en Bossa Among the Worst-Affected Areas

The municipality's M-1 emergency zone, which includes Sant Jordi, Ibiza Airport, Playa d'en Bossa, ses Salines and sa Carroca, was the most affected area during the episode.

Of the 30 interventions recorded there:

  • 11 involved flooding on public roads.

  • Seven involved flooding inside buildings or garages.

  • Seven concerned problems with the sewer network.

The area also experienced closures and reopenings of the EI-800 airport road, alongside temporary restrictions on access routes to Sant Jordi and Playa d'en Bossa.

The concentration of incidents in this southeastern zone highlights the impact of the rainfall on road infrastructure, drainage systems and properties in some of Ibiza's most heavily used areas.

Twenty Further Incidents Across the Rest of Sant Josep

The municipality's M-2 zone, covering the rest of Sant Josep, accounted for another 20 emergency interventions.

Among the incidents recorded were five cases involving obstacles or material falling onto roads, four incidents involving fallen trees or vegetation, and three problems affecting electrical cabling.

Coastal areas were also affected, including Cala de Bou, Port des Torrent, Cala Vedella and Cala Molí.

Across the entire municipality, flooding on public roads was the most common type of incident, with 13 interventions. Problems involving drainage and the sewer network accounted for nine, while flooding inside buildings and garages accounted for seven.

Other interventions involved road obstructions and damage, fallen vegetation and localised disruption to infrastructure.

Sant Josep Activated Its Municipal Emergency Plan

Sant Josep Town Hall activated its Municipal Emergency Plan at 11:38 on Sunday, 18 October, and maintained monitoring of the situation in coordination with the Balearic Government's Directorate General for Emergencies and the 112 Emergency Coordination Centre.

The response involved Sant Josep Local Police, municipal maintenance workers, Civil Protection volunteers, Ibiza firefighters, the Guardia Civil, the Military Emergency Unit (UME), road services and companies responsible for water and sanitation infrastructure.

Coordination between the different services and administrations was central to the response as crews dealt with flooding, road access problems and damage caused by the intense rainfall.

Mayor Reports No Personal Injuries

Mayor Vicent Roig Tur welcomed the fact that the episode had not resulted in reported personal injuries in Sant Josep.

He also highlighted the cooperation of residents, whose caution and patience helped emergency and municipal teams carry out their work.

The mayor praised the involvement of the different emergency services and administrations, while noting the gradual return to normality after the heavy rainfall.

Although the immediate emergency response has concluded its reported tally, the flooding has again highlighted the vulnerability of roads, drainage systems and properties in parts of Sant Josep during episodes of intense rain.

The municipality's final count provides a clearer picture of where the storm had its greatest impact and the types of incidents that required emergency intervention.
